SUMMARY

New York Edge (NYE) is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the role of Girls L.E.A.D (Learning Empowerment through Athletic Development) Specialist. Specialists should have knowledge and experience providing targeted, skill, and age-appropriate instruction, coaching, and mentorship to youth in the NYE after-school program. They will be responsible for the overall implementation of the Girls L.E.A.D program at their NYE site. They will lead sports, athletic, fitness and leadership based activities for female-identified youth in the NYE program. Specialists will assist in identifying, promoting, and recruiting youth to participate in athletic opportunities within the NYE network. The Girl L.E.A.D Specialist will collaborate with and provide ongoing support to the Girls L.E.A.D Coordinator, and will attend professional development to ensure high quality programming.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • 9-15 hours per week.

  • Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Utilize the NYE curriculum to lead in-person Girls L.E.A.D programming for youth.

  • Participate in site-wide Girls L.E.A.D events and professional development opportunities.

  • Motivate & encourage students to be active daily.

  • Maintain communication with the Program Director and Girls L.E.A.D Coordinator.

  • Ensure the program participants’ health, safety, and well-being by closely supervising all activities and demonstrating proper use of materials and equipment.

  • Establish and enforce behavior rules and procedures to maintain order among the students under care, while providing a supportive, fun, safe, and positive learning environment.

  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.

  • Teach fundamentals & progressive skills, while emphasizing teamwork and fair play.

  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.

  • Most Girls L.E.A.D Specialists are expected to provide support during Academic hours.

    REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in sports and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.

  • Must have an understanding or strong desire to teach female-identifying youth in sports, athletics, and fitness activities.

  • Passion for women’s sports, athletics, and fitness.

  • Prior experience competing, teaching and instructing youth preferred

  • Must be able to follow a curriculum

  • Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual!

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • May be required to walk up and down stairs.

  • May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.

  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events.

  • Reliable, organized and punctual.

  • Strong leader and team-builder.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required; Some college preferred.

  • A minimum of one year of work-related skills, knowledge, or experience is required.

  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.

  • Must have passion for New York Edge’s mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.

  • Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred.

  • CPR/AED Certification is preferred.

    The Girls L.E.A.D Specialist will be required to report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration.

    At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
