City of Bristol TN 911 Communications Dispatcher in Bristol, Tennessee
**911 COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER
POSITION DESCRIPTION:**
- Under supervision of the Communications Manager and Supervisors, performs highly responsible, specialized work involving receiving, screening and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls through the communications system
- Uses the emergency 911 computer systems and dispatches Police, Fire and EMS vehicles/personnel to emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance based on zone assignment and availability
- Dispatches utility and street crews as necessary
- Accurately and efficiently initiates appropriate City, County, State and Federal police, fire and medical assistance based on zone assignment and availability
- Interprets policies, procedures and standards and applies to each unique set of circumstances
- Works within the scope of established laws, rules, regulations and procedures of the Police Department
- Exercises considerable judgment and initiative when required
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Performs related work as directed.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability to follow and clearly provide complex written and oral instructions with a high degree of accuracy and responsibility under stressful conditions
- Must successfully pass Dispatcher Written Testing
- While employed, must complete all training and requirements for State and National EMD, NCIC, CPR, Basic Dispatch, and TDD Certifications
- Must possess a valid driver license
- Excellent computer, documentation and spelling skills
