Optum’s EHR Services represents one of the fastest growing practices within Optum Insight’s Advisory and Implementations business unit. The EHR Services practice is comprised of 600+ individuals across the U.S. and Ireland who are dedicated to improving the healthcare delivery system through the power of healthcare technology, specifically, the EHR and integrated applications and tools. By joining the EHR Services team, you’ll partner with some of the most gifted healthcare technology thought leaders within the industry, collaborate with experienced consulting and healthcare leaders, and help partners capture the benefits of their EHR investment.

As an ECSA, you'll drive vital projects that have strategic importance to our clients. You’ll be responsible for the configuration, monitoring, support, and administration of the Epic Systems application/data infrastructure. The ECSA will help to maintain an optimized infrastructure to support numerous client applications within the Web and Presentation tiers, including Hyperspace Web, MyChart, Interconnect, BCA Web, and more. This role will also assist with third-party application integration.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and deploy the Epic client and other delivery infrastructure components on Microsoft Windows servers

  • Maintain and support Epic ancillary services like Hyperdrive and Interconnect, and related services

  • Monitor Epic system performance as part of daily operations

  • Review Sherlock and Galaxy notes and apply routine upgrades to all Epic environment client applications and back end services

  • Assist in integrating other applications with Epic using web services

  • Implement Epic system high availability strategies and mechanisms

  • Maintain Epic production (PRD) and non-production (non-PRD) Hyperdrive environments

  • Troubleshoot and diagnoses Epic ancillary application issues and implement solutions

  • Ensure Epic application and infrastructure changes are communicated to the necessary teams across the enterprise

  • Works closely with database, environment/infrastructure and internal/external enterprise security teams

  • Provide on call support for production performance/availability or other critical issues

Required Qualifications:

  • An active Epic ECSA certification, or ability to renew or obtain certification within first 6 months of employment

  • 4+ years of experience in Windows Server administration including scripting and automation

  • 2+ years of experience supporting the Epic EMR, in an infrastructure role

  • Proven solid communication and organizational skills, and ability to track and communicate statuses to leadership teams

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Azure, AWS, GCS, or other cloud server experience

  • MCSA certification

  • 5+ years Epic technical/infrastructure/ECSA experience

  • Experience with Epic Kuiper

  • Scripting experience with PowerShell or other relevant language

  • Experience with ITIL, Agile, Lean, Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies

  • Proficiency with Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

  • Led technical projects, such as software or hardware implementations, technology infrastructure initiatives and architecture, disaster recovery planning, EHR migrations, etc.

  • Have a history of cross-team communication and leadership skills, and track record of driving successful execution as a team

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to distribute and maintain Epic windows application on multiple servers

  • Ability to participate in cross functional meetings to resolve Epic Client-Server technical issues

  • Has a comprehensive view of the Epic Windows applications, infrastructure and the 3rd party applications

  • Installs, upgrades, maintains and supports Epic ancillary applications (Web Blob, Interconnect, Hyperspace Web, EPS, etc.) server platforms

  • Applies Epic client pack updates to all installed ancillary applications

  • Works with other teams to apply and validate Windows patches to application servers

  • Monitors and optimizes the performance of Epic ancillary applications

  • Defines and implements security, audit, and resource allocation policies and procedures. Defines, creates, and manages service user accounts, profiles, privileges, roles, and required audit information

  • Communicate and coordinate with other teams (UNIX, MS SQL, Windows, Network, SAN etc.) related to database, application and environment support and projects

  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality, integrity, and personal accountability when working with sensitive and restricted data, including protected health information (PHI)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
