Handle the daily service demands of our agents and our underwriters in support of individual and team goals. Requires a basic understanding of appetite, pricing guidelines, underwriting processes, coverage offerings, services, and underwriting system transactions. Under direct supervision, this position works within a letter of authority issued by the MLI Product Manager. All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor MLI regional mailboxes for all new and renewal underwriting activity. Route requests that need to go to specific underwriters for their review.
  • Respond to all inquiries in a timely manner on coverage, billing questions and making policy adjustments based upon granted authority level. Take necessary measures to obtain information needed to finalize inquiries/transactions.
  • Have a general understanding of the product and coverages offered; from analyzing forms, applications, guidelines, and underwriting requirements. Attend and participate virtually or in person for in MLI Departmental and Corporate Underwriting meetings.
  • Process assigned renewal policies, review and assess endorsement requests / execute within authority, handle BOR's in accordance with established guidelines, LPR Processeing, Loss Run requests, Agency Book Rolls, Agency Code Changes / Terminations, and any other ad hoc processes that occur during the policy period.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external customers regarding various underwriting information including the commercial lines automated systems.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers. Reinforce the ease of doing business with Selective by meeting or exceeding customers' expectations and service quality on a consistent basis.
  • Complete registration and document upload of new business submissions received through the Regional MLI Mailboxes or from the assigned Underwriter.
  • Execute renewal application solicitation for assigned renewals and handle the transfer of cases to the assigned underwriter through the Underwriting Workstation.
  • Send conditional renewal notices when requested by underwriters.
    Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Communicate openly and in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in the development of individual and team goals and work diligently to achieve them.
  • Develop and maintain a highly functional working knowledge of all systems used by the department (CLAS, Underwriting Workstation, Claims Inquiry, COGNOS, STG Billing, Agency Inquiry, etc).

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the usage of all supplied desktop tools; including the automated underwriting system and email.
  • Display confidence and a willingness to take ownership of a request or problem.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to see the big picture while responding to changing conditions.

The expected starting salary range for this role is$47,000 - $67,000 The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
