Position Details

General Statement

The program manager is responsible for daily management of the Montana Kinship Navigator Program. This position will require pro-active planning and communication skills in work with the Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services, Child Protective Services Division and a variety of agencies and organizations across the state. Additionally, the candidate will work individually with kinship caregivers in the state who are raising relative children. Candidates should have the ability to coordinate and manage multiple aspects of the program such as scheduling and facilitating meetings, generating reports, and managing budgets.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Regularly meet with the Principal Investigator for the program to ensure effective communication is continuously maintained and the project is being managed effectively.

  • Facilitate the implementation of all aspects of the project, including stakeholder and client communications, and reports.

  • Assure the program operates in compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract and federal, state and University regulations.

  • Coordinate plans for monitoring and evaluating the project’s’ goals and objectives, and performance.

  • Oversee the preparation and monitoring of the required performance reports, as well as other reports needed by the federal, state, and University.

  • Plan and administer the grant’s budget, in accordance with University policies and in compliance with grant requirements and authorize all expenditures.

  • Gather and analyze data for evaluation and improvement of programs.

  • Communicate project goals and objectives to the University community and state communities.

  • Coordinate events and activities such as meetings and workshops.

  • Develop professional presentations for diverse audiences about projects.

  • Meet with Child and Family Services regional offices to inform them of the contract services.

  • Work closely with the Child and Family Services kinship navigators within the division located in Great Falls and Billings.

  • Coordinate and support the network of local kinship caregiver support groups across the State.

  • Work directly with kinship providers who seek resources and services.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science or education discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in an administrative or project management role

  • Demonstrated competence performing entry into and accessing information from relational databases.

  • Demonstrated experience designing, writing, editing and formatting professional documents such as reports, business correspondence, spreadsheets, and brochures.

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Graduate degree in social science, education or management field is preferred

  • Two years’ experience in an administrative or project management role is preferred

  • Experience working collaboratively with agencies and organizations across the state.

  • Experience in working with families, especially families in crisis.

  • Experience in case management and goal setting.

  • Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of customers, i.e. co-workers, program partners, clients, and the general public.

  • Demonstrate skill organizing and prioritizing large volumes of work with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality, paying close attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and adapting to changing priorities while maintaining a positive and professional approach.

  • Demonstrated experience with personal computers using word processing, spreadsheet, and e-mail; Microsoft Office experience.

  • Demonstrated excellence in supporting program management, including coordinating program staff and activities, marketing and materials.

    Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

    Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding.

Position requires some travel.

Must possess a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and meet all State of Montana requirements to operate State/University vehicles. (If successful candidate possesses a valid out-of-state driver’s license, must obtain a valid Montana driver’s license within 60 days of hire.)Do NOT send a copy of the driver’s license.
