The Laboratory Services Manager that supports our SDC business has responsibility for direct support of custom product manufacturing and testing services along with supporting research and development activities and requires spending significant amounts of time in and around laboratory, research and development and factory areas. The ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated skills and experience necessary to perform in a laboratory manufacturing leadership role.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Model personal Lean Philosophy 5S behaviors in creating a continuously improving, clean, well-organized and self-maintaining work environment. Work closely with team members and others to motivate and improve 5S knowledge and implementation.
  • Follow a continuous improvement approach for team accountability for achieving high performance SQDCM (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, & Morale) targets through a visual work environment.
  • Complies with company ethics, code of conduct, policies, and best practices, with a commitment to safety in the workplace, valuing of diversity, and promotion of a harassment-free environment.
  • Laboratory Operations Management
    • Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring that all processes are carried out efficiently and effectively.
    • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, ensuring adequate supplies and timely procurement of necessary materials.
    • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Staff Management
    • Recruit, train, and supervise laboratory personnel, including technicians and scientists.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.
    • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, promoting teamwork and high morale.
    • Establish standard work, training programs and handle day to day issues and concerns.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with relevant regulations, including USP and ISO standards, and other applicable guidelines.
    • Obtain and maintain quality certifications that support the advancement of the laboratory.
    • Implement and monitor quality assurance programs to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
    • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous compliance.
    • Support quality and facility audits when necessary and provide timely resolution of any findings/observations.
    • Lead and support complaint investigation and handling.
  • Custom Study Management and Project Coordination:
    • Apply scientific fundamentals in a hypothesis-driven environment to guide and support the development of methods, products, and processes needed to promote success at all stages of the product/study life cycle.
    • Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of custom contract studies, ensuring all project goals and client requirements are met.
    • Collaborate with clients to understand their specific study needs and provide expert guidance on study design, protocols, and methodologies.
    • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality study results and reports to clients.
    • Coordinate with other departments and external partners to plan and execute laboratory projects and studies.
    • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope.
    • Communicate project progress and results to stakeholders, addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Data Management and Reporting
    • Oversee the accurate recording and analysis of laboratory data, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.
    • Prepare and present detailed reports on laboratory activities, performance metrics, and project outcomes.
    • Evaluate and implement improvements to streamline data management, reporting, billing and other processes.
    • Communicate technical information to internal teams and external customers in the form of oral and written correspondence, presentations, and reports.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols to protect laboratory staff and ensure a safe working environment.
    • Conduct regular safety training sessions and ensure compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines.
    • Investigate and address any incidents or accidents promptly, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Budget and Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the laboratory budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
    • Monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality or efficiency.
    • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance laboratory capabilities.
  • Provide support to the commercial teams (customer service, sales, marketing, technical support) and external customers including feedback on and assist with development on protocols, training, results interpretation, and assisting in providing feedback on quotations on custom product or studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or closely related field required, advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Proven experience in managing laboratory operations, staff, and quality assurance programs
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Compensation/Benefits:

The company offers a comprehensive benefits package and compensation for this position. The package includes base salary, bonus, equity, medical/dental/vision insurance, 401k/Match.
