Purpose of Classification
Directly reports to the Public Affairs Director and performs professional administrative work planning, organizing, developing and implementing communications activities and messaging through social media, media, the city’s website and other digital and traditional communications platforms. Writes news releases, facilitates interviews with subject matter experts and provides information to media on behalf of the city as directed. Assists in creation of marketing materials and internal communications.
Essential Functions
Creates compelling, relevant and accurate social media content, including videos, photos and graphics.
Monitors social media and tracks city’s performance.
Assists with media relations.
Assists in preparation and dissemination of emergency information and communications.
Creates, edits and distributes public information materials, i.e. news releases, media advisories, letters, presentations, social media posts and emails.
Creates, updates and manages content on the City's website and mobile app.
Creates and designs electronic and print graphics and flyers, pamphlets, and other print and digital media and advertisements.
Assists with implementing the City's public information programs.
Works with the city’s marketing team to assist in the planning, development, implementation and administration of the city's communication plan and communication strategies consistent with the city’s brand.
Provides general support to the Director in fulfilling the City's communications plans and other stated goals and objectives.
Performs administrative duties and compiles data for special projects or reports, as assigned, ensuring completion by specified deadlines and in accordance with outlined goals and objectives.
Collaborates with other City departments to create and execute communications plans for public information or marketing campaigns.
Manages lists for media contacts.
Serves as city spokesperson on TV, radio and other media outlets as needed.
Serves in emergency operations center during emergency activations.
Seeks out professional learning opportunities to expand creative and technical skills.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field. Must possess two (2) years of professional work experience involving communications or marketing. And must possess [or be able to obtain within 14 days of hire] and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.

The City pays the entire premium for an eligible employee. The employee may elect to cover a spouse and/or dependent children by paying the applicable premium for the dependent(s).

Premiums for eligible employees are paid by the City. Premiums for any covered dependent are paid by the employee with a contribution by the City.

Full-time employees accrue one day of sick leave per month. An employee may elect to use up to 5 days per year of accrued sick time for illness in his/her immediate family.
