Summary
The Technical Services Manager is responsible for managing all of the technical operations of the School of Media and Communication and related student organizations. Duties include: technical staff direction and supervision, capital planning, budgeting, broadcast/production/information technology facility design, equipment procurement/installation/implementation and maintenance.
Essential Functions
• Manages the technical operations and maintenance of equipment and software utilized in the area of responsibility (SMC, WBGU- FM transmitter). Inspect equipment and conduct documented performance checks to insure proper operation and conformity with FAA/FCC regulations.
• Supervise SMC technology support personnel. Supervise the technical support and student positions to broadcast audio and video productions.
• Oversee technical maintenance of SMC student media website including streaming, dynamic database and integration.
• Hands on operation, repair and maintenance of equipment hardware and software.
• Consult with SMC departments, student media, and external constituents and supervise student television and radio broadcast, audio/video editing labs and equipment field production reservation employees,
• Maintain custom database applications (Resource Scheduling System, programming database) and liaison with BGSU Information Technology Services on IT related activities at SMC facilities.
• Professional development training and researching new/emerging technologies, specifically in the area of Digital Audio, Radio, High Definition Television, Video/Audio Streaming and IT Technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
• Bachelor's Degree. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
The following Experience is required:
• 3 years Supervisory responsibility
• 3 years Management responsibility
Additional Information
• Competency of maintenance and repair of technical equipment in studios and transmitter facilities/tower. RF engineering knowledge
• Must have an in-depth knowledge of Audio, Video and RF technologies and engineering with the ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematic diagrams
• Professional IT experience of one to two years hardware support and maintenance experience, and/or one to two years software operating system support experience, and/or one to two years software application installation and troubleshooting experience, and/or one to two years cross platform support experience, and/or one year computer networking support experience.
• Competency in the support of desktop operating systems (Mac OS and Windows)
• Competency in the support of computer hardware (Both Macintosh and PC)
• Competency in computer networking configuration and troubleshooting
• Competency in Storage Area Networks and Network Attached Storage
• Design and construct new engineering projects as required
