Western Kentucky University seeks a laboratory manager (research scientist) for the Advanced Materials Institute (AMI).

About AMI

Located in modern laboratory space within WKU's Center for Research and Development, AMI is a research organization dedicated to the development and innovation of new materials with enhanced properties for various applications. It focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration to advance material science and technology, fostering technological breakthroughs and industrial applications. It provides access to advanced scientific instrumentation for characterizations of the composition, structure, and properties of materials in support of the educational, research, and public service missions of WKU for local, regional, and national businesses and governmental agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • provide education, training, and supervision of research users;

  • coordinate the operation, research use, and maintenance of AMI facilities;

  • plan for new equipment and upgrades;

  • prepare and contribute to publications and project reports;

  • assist the director in writing grant proposals and to manage the budget of the AMI;

  • provide analytical services to internal and external research groups and commercial clients;

  • engage in collaborative and independent research;

  • oversee activities of student workers

  • ensure hazards and risks are identified and controlled.

    Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Chemistry, Materials science, or related field.

  • Expertise in material characterizations and research.

    Additional Information:

Salary Range: $46,100 - $48,365
