Job Title: Casting Operator Casting/Melting
Classification: Non-Exempt
Department: Casting
Reports to: Supervisor
Purpose:
The Casting/Melting Operator is responsible for monitoring equipment, making adjustments as necessary to maintain quality, and reporting any changes in conditions they can’t control.
General Duties:
Ensure equipment is operating within specified parameters
Operation of melting furnaces: Material handling, charging, alloying melting furnaces
Build 20 Metric Ton charges continuous throughout the shift
Load the charges in 1450 degree melting furnaces
Safely Operate 15,000# forklifts
Perform Spectrometer testing to plan refinements
Perform fluxing and refinements to the metal to ensure quality
Manually transfer 15 Metric Ton of 1450 degree metal from Melters to Holders
Clean and maintain daily maintenance on metal troughs
Perform and monitor equipment checks
Clean, inspect, and maintain furnaces
Perform and maintain quality checks
Manual set up of casting operations and maintain good casting conditions
Able to shutoff metal blowouts during production
Performs work by SOP’s
Maintain good 5S in work area, equipment, and tools
Performs other duties as required
Maintain and support 5s activities outside the working areas
Safely operate 20 Metric Ton overhead cranes
Skills:
Ability to work both independently and as a team
Basic troubleshooting and problem solving
Ability to identify nonstandard situations and respond accordingly
Self-Driven
Requirements:
High school degree or GED equivalency.
Basic mechanical aptitude
Must be willing to work a (4 Star) 12-hour shifts (willing to work every other weekend and some holidays). Shifts are either 5:00 AM to 5:10 PM or 5:00 PM to 5:10 PM
Able to perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods, to include but not limited to: lifting, walking, standing, stooping, pulling, and pushing
Willing to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations; including wearing personal protective equipment
Must always work safely
Willing to work in hot/humid, cold, noisy industrial environment (Summer time heat index in excess of 135 degrees and sub-freezing temperature during winter months)
Willing to work around dust, oil, grease, chemicals, and other substances
Able to use a computer for basic reporting and documentation
Good interpersonal skills
Good communication skills. Ability to read, write, and communicate verbally
Able to accurately use basic math
Molten metal experience strongly preferred
