The College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) Student Support & Advising Services (SSAS) unit welcomes applications for a Temporary Academic Advisor! CEAS is committed to building collaborative, student-centered relationships that support the achievement of academic success, promote personal and professional development, and cultivate a sense of community. CEAS academic advisors educate the whole student through a developmental, student-focused approach. Advisors are charged with developing and implementing advising strategies and interventions to enhance the performance and persistence of students, along with contributing to the development of student learning outcomes and assessments.

Temporary academic advisors provide support for CEAS undergraduate students during advisor vacancies and/or in times of undergraduate enrollment growth. They may be called upon to manage an assigned caseload of undergraduate students; to provide individual appointments, drop-in hours, and email advising for students in their assigned major(s); and/or to provide other advising-related administrative and project support within the unit. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Undergraduate Academic Advising:

  • Advises students regarding academic requirements and options for completing them. Knows the latest about changing curricula; department/program, college, and university rules and policies.

  • Offers a student-focused developmental approach to advising, and develops trusting, supportive relationships with individual students. Is knowledgeable of current advising standards and protocols.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for academic questions or concerns for any assigned caseload, and provides referrals to appropriate resources as needed.

  • Works with students via individual appointments, group meetings, and/or drop-in hours as needed via videoconference, in-person, telephone, and email.

  • Personalizes the academic path at CU Boulder.

  • Reviews students' academic records and discusses appropriate course choices.

  • Offers co-curricular guidance complementing academic path and goals.

  • Leads students in intentional goal setting appropriate to their developmental stage.

  • Participates as needed in advising-related programming that aligns with the timing of the temporary position (new student orientation, graduation, etc.).

  • Participates in advising-related outreach campaigns as appropriate (e.g. students who have not met with an advisor, students in academic difficulty, students who have not enrolled in classes, etc.).

  • Adopts college and university protocols to maintain records of student interactions, student paperwork, and progress towards the degree. This may include evaluation of transfer and study abroad credit, updating degree audits, and graduation confirmation for students in any assigned caseload.

  • Serves as a backup to other undergraduate advisors in the unit as needed.

  • Participates in advising-related meetings and committees within the advising neighborhood, department, and college as assigned.

  • Handles advising-related administrative tasks, projects, and other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

This is a temporary, full time position anticipated to last through June 30th, 2025. This role is eligible for a hybrid work modality.

What We Can Offer

The hourly rate for this position is $26-28.

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and/or education.

  • One year of academic advising or related professional experience at an institution of higher education.
