WSP USA Electrical Engineer- Renewable Energy in Boulder, Colorado
This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Electrical Engineer- Renewable Energy for our office in Buffalo, NY. The following office locations will also be considered: Houston, TX, Chicago, IL Denver, CO, Boston, MA, San Diego, CA, Richmond. VA, Las Vegas, NV, New York, NY and Boulder, CO.
The candidate will be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Provides design and technical guidance for solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects from concept through permitting to construction phase for distributed generation and utility-scale projects. Liaise and coordinate with related parties during projects including client representatives, manufacturers/suppliers, utility engineers and other engineering disciplines. Supports senior staff with project management and provide technical direction to engineering team members.
Your Impact
Develop designs for solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage system (BESS) and hybrid systems from conceptual to construction (detailed design) phase including single and three-line DC/AC electrical schematics, layouts, grounding and construction details, schedules and calculations.
Prepare CAD drawings in accordance with client intent, national and state regulations and best practices.
Proficient with AutoCAD
Specify equipment and materials for incorporation in electrical system design.
Perform protective device coordination, short-circuit studies and arc-flash hazard analysis using ETAP software
Knowledge of medium voltage systems and protective device settings.
Experience working on renewable generation facilities interconnecting to distribution systems and ‘behind-the-meter’ projects.
Preparation of design documentation to utility companies for interconnection applications and liaison/consultation with utility engineers through to interconnection agreement.
Attend meetings with clients, manufacturers/suppliers, utilities, internal/external team members
Be responsible for coordination of electrical design with other disciplines (other disciplines (civil, structural, architectural, etc.).
Work together with other team members and provide technical assistance to supporting engineering staff.
Perform visual inspections at potential and/or construction sites for the purpose of conformance with regulations and design intent.
Provide support to senior engineering staff to manage project design and schedule.
Support client and contractors during construction phase performing, submittal reviews, providing responses to information requests and reviewing final handover documentation.
Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and presentations related to potential and awarded projects.
Expand technical knowledge of technologies and advancements associated with distributed generation.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in an electrical engineering capacity designing solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage system (BESS), microgrid and hybrid systems
Engineer in Training Certification.
Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, including NFPA, NESC, IEEE and ANSI standards.
Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PDF software
Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Essential Professional Licensure.
Relevant renewable energy certification (NABCEP, etc.)

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $73,100 - $125,400
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $73,100 - $117,700
