About the role This position is responsible for supporting the business unit’s strategic plan by designing, documenting, developing, implementing and sustaining complex equipment and machines for the production, validation and inspection of product. This position works under minimal supervision. This role provides the opportunity to work within the Network Solutions Business Unit of Leviton Manufacturing Company Inc. Responsibilities Develop concepts and detailed designs for complex mechanical mechanisms that manufacture, inspect and validate products using CAD software. Design equipment that has multiple functions and stations that integrate PLCs, servos, motion controllers and actuators using CAD software. Design mechanical components for equipment and machines using CAD software. Document components, equipment and machines using CAD programs in accordance with departmental and quality system procedures with the result being the creation of machine, equipment and component drawings. Develop equipment in an organized manner by using project schedules, and spread sheets to manage component ordering and/or fabrication needed to assemble, program and implement a machine. Assemble, wire, install and debug equipment purchased or developed internally onto the production floor. Develop functional flow charts of the machine operations to facilitate machine programming and debugging. Document maintenance procedures for equipment and machines developed internally or purchased. Support of production, quality and design engineering groups by trouble shooting and repairing equipment and machines. Coach and mentor less experienced department personnel to develop their skills and abilities. Qualifications Must have ability to conceptualize complex equipment and machine designs that include multiple mechanical movements in a series of stations. Must have thorough understanding of machine and equipment wiring requirements. Must have ability to demonstrate knowledge and application of actuators (pneumatic and electrical), PLCs and servos mechanisms used in machines and equipment. Basic understanding of flow charting and PLC programming. Must have the ability to design components and assemblies in SolidWorks and/or Autodesk Inventor. Ability to turn solid models into part and assembly drawings. Must be able ability to organize tasks, components and documentation into clearly understandable structures that can be used to manage tasks, communicate schedules / equipment concepts and train other personnel. Must have ability to trouble shoot equipment for mechanical and electrical issues. Must be able to organize spare parts and supplies used in support of maintenance and repair activities Must have the ability to determine how a set of equipment and components will be integrated into a machine system. Must understanding of part fabricating methods and practices including limitations. Must have knowledge of and be able to use measuring tools, calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and optical comparators. Education & Experience Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Automation, Manufacturing or Mechatronics Engineering. Minimum (6) years applicable experience Applicable experience includes work done for the design, development and repair / maintenance of machines and equipment used in the manufacture, testing and validation of product.
