Amazon Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS EFS Platform Engineering in Boston, Massachusetts

Description

AWS Elastic File System enables customers to build their large-scale highly available cloud-native solutions by offering durable shared file system access across their fleets. EFS scales with customer workloads on-demand, offering petabytes of storage and gigabytes per second of throughput out of the box. While EFS has seen tremendous growth since launch we are still in the early stages of realizing its full potential.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer for the EFS Platform Engineering team, you will join a team of deeply technical engineers relentless in their mission to design and build systems to rapidly and safely deploy changes and critical security patches to a massive fleet of file systems while also automating the processes of spinning up the EFS stack in new AWS regions around the world.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, Implement, Test, and Deploy highly impactful software systems

  • Build systems that scale to support our massive fleet of Elastic File System nodes

  • Support the operations of the systems owned by our team to ensure we maintain the highest availability bar

  • Build and support an engineering culture of technical strength and provide technical mentoring to the team.

  • As a leader, partner with Software Development Management and Product Management peers to shape the future of EFS's roadmap.

A day in the life

In this role, you will provide technical leadership, solve complex software problems, and make impactful trade-offs between short-term and long-term results. You’ll think in terms of architecture, not just code, and will help elevate our ability to deploy and operate high availability systems worldwide.

A successful candidate is comfortable in a leadership role and seeks to mentor and grow less experienced engineers on the team. You understand customer obsession and live and breathe operational excellence. You know when to partner with and influence other teams to deliver results.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience leading and influencing your team or organization
