This position will assist with the day-to-day operation in the Office of Student Financial Services and will be a member of the Undergraduate Student Financial Services team. The Senior Assistant Director assists in the execution of the financial aid program designed to assist undergraduate students with their investment in a Suffolk education. The Senior Assistant Director also collaborates with office leadership to ensure the policies and practices in financial aid will create outstanding customer service for current and prospective Suffolk students. The Senior Assistant Director will work to eliminate barriers that students may face and create efficient, service friendly ideas for the benefit of students.

A candidate should have e xpertise and knowledge of financial aid processes and procedures; knowledge of Federal Financial Aid programs, regulations and guidelines; proficiency with the use of job-related software programs; skill in interpersonal relations and an ability to effectively communicate with internal stakeholders and external customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with federal financial aid regulations. Maintain up-to-date policies, procedures, and state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives. Develop and/or assist with the development of policies and procedures and recommends changes to effectively meet the goals and requirements of the program. Implement financial aid awarding strategies. Establish office policies and procedures that reflect fair and objective distribution of aid, and participate in financial aid appeals.

Represent the Office of Student Financial Services at various on and off-campus events as needed, including occasional evening and weekend hours.

Review financial aid applications and award students in caseload of undergraduate students. Manage a caseload of students. Counsel student s and families regarding financial aid programs. Coordinate the financial aid award process for a designated group of students by coordinating the cycle of awards and reviewing and revising aid application materials.

Requirements/Qualification :

  • Bachelor’s degree;

  • Minimum of three years of recent professional experience in higher education financial aid including demonstrated expertise in financial aid programs and regulations;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel;

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving and communication skills;

  • Exemplary customer service skills;

  • Ability to work under continual deadlines requiring great attention to detail while managing competing responsibilities;

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills;

  • The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to help developing and implementing the University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion policies and goals.

    A hybrid schedule is available and will incorporate a mix of in-office and remote work based on the needs of the office and the enrollment cycle.
