Boston University REGISTERED NURSE, Student Health Services in BOSTON, Massachusetts

Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, the RN will provide comprehensive primary care to achieve the optimal social growth and development, as well as the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of the student patient population.

The Registered Nurse is responsible for identifying the nature and urgency of healthcare issues and determining an appropriate disposition for Boston University students. The RN will support the healthcare of students by assessing current symptoms, including physical and psycho-social history when indicated and gathering objective data such as vital signs. This will occur in person, online, and via phone and includes the provision of healthcare education as determined by standard nursing protocols at Student Health Services.

Provide clinical oversight and review immunization forms for Boston University Academy students. In addition, the nurse will also provide immunizations, PPDs, and medication administration, including injections, for Boston University students. Follow established infection and safety procedures while performing medication administration, immunization administration, and laboratory POC procedures such as urine pregnancy testing, urine dip testing, and rapid strep testing.

Works effectively as multidisciplinary team member supporting and assisting their team in all activities. This includes duties such as attending and participating in staff meetings and join committee activities, maintaining certifications and licenses in addition to continuing education and training classes to support organizational learning and personal growth initiatives as outlined by supervisor, and is involved and participates in organizational process and quality improvement initiatives.

This is 12-month, Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 pm on site position with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday coverage during the academic year.

Required Skills

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required.

  • Current state licensure as a registered nurse in Massachusetts Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, clinicians and staff.

  • 3-5 Years of nursing experience required. Triage experience and previous experience in college health setting preferred.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Professional, friendly attitude.
