Amergis Physical Therapist (School) - ST in Boston, Massachusetts

Amergis Educational Staffing is partnered with schools in Boston, MA to hire school based Physical Therapists to work with students on a contractual basis.

Details of the Position Include:

Location: Boston, MA

Duration: 2024/2025 School Year

Start Date: ASAP

Schedule: Mon.-Fri. 6.5 hours/day

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree with advanced credentials; Doctorate Degree (not equal to a PhD)

  • Massachusetts License in Physical Therapy

    Pay Rate: Up to $57-$65

    Description:

    Evaluation

  • Physical Therapists will access students referred for evaluation using appropriate testing instruments.

  • Physical Therapists will write reports that reflect the results of standardized tests and observations that contain information helpful and understandable to all involved parties and that contain clear recommendations.

  • Evaluations will be performed within timelines established in state and federal regulations.

    Physical Therapy Services

  • Therapy and consultation services will be provided to students based on the individual needs of each student and in compliance with each child’s IEP or 504 Plan.

  • Physical Therapists will provide services in the least restrictive setting.

  • Physical Therapists will participate in pre-referral, Team Meeting, Student Support Team activities and will provide professional development to school based staff as requested.

  • Physical Therapists will consult with other Related Services providers, teachers, and parents in order to provide effective services in a variety of settings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs student reassessments and regularly reevaluates student for rehabilitation needs, and works in collaboration with the physician and other members of the healthcare team to modify the plan of care as appropriate

  • Participates in developing the plan of care in collaboration with the physician and other members of the health care team

  • When applicable, completes initial comprehensive assessment of student and family to determine physical needs; provides a complete physical assessment and history of current and previous illnesses

  • Assesses and evaluates and/or assists the physician in assessing and evaluating therapeutic, rehabilitative, function status (as applicable)

  • Assesses muscle strength, mobility, gait, and Range of Motion (ROM)

  • On incisions resulting from orthopedic surgery, removes staples or sutures and manages incision line

  • Provides physical therapy treatment and establishes physical therapy plan of care

  • Instructs student, families, and/or caregivers in the use of and care of therapeutic appliances

  • Determines priority needs for physical therapy

  • Reports student’s reaction(s) to treatment or changes in condition to physician and/or Building Nurse and Amergis Clinical designee

  • Initiates physical therapy program and instructs, consults, and/or advises other personnel and/or family/caregiver regarding certain phases of physical therapy with which they may work with the patient, and explains the goals of the physical therapy program by participating in case conferences

  • Trains student in use of prosthetic device(s) and use of other assistive devices (e.g., walker); ensures equipment used in the course of student treatment is in good working order

  • Uses appropriate equipment to meet student goals, cleans and maintains equipment according to manufactures guidelines

  • Prepares and submits clinical and progress summaries based on the attainment and progress of goals, and responses to treatment or changes in condition

  • Participates in peer consultation process

  • Supervises Physical Therapy Assistants according to the company’s policies/procedures and State regulations

  • Participates in quarterly medical record reviews as applicable

  • Participates in care coordination with the company and other personnel caring for the student to ensure that their efforts effectively complement each other and support the objectives outlined in the plan of care

  • Provides/submits accurate and timely documentation in accordance with the plan of care and company policy and procedures

  • Complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standards

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state of practice

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy

  • One (1) year of prior professional Physical Therapy experience preferred

  • Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
