Job Description:

The newsroom initiatives senior coordinator is a unique opportunity to sit at the crossroads of a growing regional media company, working with our newsroom and business functions to launch and develop new projects. This position reports to the General Manager of Editorial Revenue and Strategy in our commercial revenue department (advertising), but the role collaborates across all company departments. The mission is to build or optimize commercial revenue opportunities to support our journalism, while not compromising the Globe’s greatest assets -- our editorial independence.
Responsibilities:
Identify, create and implement new commercial revenue opportunities around the Globe’s journalism and across our platforms
Build and maintain the Globe’s public-facing Editorial Calendar across The Boston Globe (print), Globe.com (digital), Boston.com and BGMP events.
Serve as a point of contact between the newsroom and the advertising department, fielding questions and strategizing solutions in a highly collaborative environment.
Devise concepts for events featuring our journalists and work closely with the Globe events team to execute them
Collaborate with the newsroom to develop journalism franchises with sponsorship potential and opportunities
Coordinate with sales planning to position newsroom initiatives for the market, including sales materials and promotion, and work with revenue operations to design pricing and client-ready media plans
Advise sales team on newsroom initiatives, suggesting relevant advertising opportunities based on client goals
Leverage data insights to recommend new projects to the sales team and newsroom
Manage cross-functional projects through completion, forging partnerships and systems throughout the process
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, media, communications, marketing or a related field
At least 3-5 years work or internship experience in publishing, news, events, advertising or marketing
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
Reporting, editor or other professional newsroom experience
A deep interest in news media as a business
Entrepreneurial approach to projects
Proven ability to collaborate, especially across departments
Highly organized and able to juggle multiple projects and manage their stakeholders
Strong public speaking skills, including developing presentations and fielding questions from colleagues in a group setting
A careful eye for detail, especially in written communications
Basic knowledge of spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel) and slide design
Passion for local news, including the importance of credibility and independence as part of our mission and business model
A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
