The Municipal Trader is responsible for executing municipal bond buy and sell orders using investment parameters set by the municipal Portfolio Managers in conjunction with municipal analysts and other traders. Trades often involve negotiating complex transactions while maintaining a high level of integrity.

_Primary Responsibilities_:

  • Transact in accordance with the philosophy of specific Portfolio Managers to implement trades to enhance shareholder value and to limit opportunity costs.

  • Provide training, development, and mentoring to the newer trading staff.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with Portfolio Managers to ensure that they receive a high level of information and analysis regarding market sentiment, trading environment, volume, price volatility, and relative value. Assure integration of the investment process and trading strategies to enhance performance. Make recommendations for trading alternatives to investment objectives based upon opportunity in the marketplace.

  • Allocate trades to separate funds in accordance with the investment strategies as set forth in the departmental allocation guidelines.

  • Maintain strategic relationships with the broker/dealer community to ensure that the needs for portfolio management, research, and trading expertise are met.

  • Support the Head of Municipal Bond Trading within the broker/dealer community to continue the enhancement of our position as a leading market participant.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. Master’s degree and/or a CFA Designation is preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the investment industry. High yield municipal experience preferred.

  • Ability to actively trade portfolios for total-return based objective.

  • Ability to provide leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving guidance to department members.

  • Excellent quantitative, qualitative, and management skills.

  • In depth knowledge of fixed income markets.

  • Advanced PC computer skills including Perform, Bloomberg, and other industry software.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential; presentation skills and the ability to influence decisions are helpful attributes.
