Raytheon Digital Technology (DT) is seeking an experienced application architect with engineering systems experience to lead the creation and implementation modern, secure software systems for global engineering teams. The Digital Architect for Engineering Application Solutions (“Architect”) is a senior individual contributor in the Architecture (EA) organization of the Information Technology function in Raytheon and will join the Application & Data Architecture team.

The Engineering Application Architect is a member of a talented Architecture team with expertise in formal architecture practices and a wide range of technical skills across all IT domains. Candidates for this role should be comfortable operating in all architecture domains (enterprise, business, domain, and solution), at various times, to successfully guide the delivery of high value digital products that address critical business needs. You will support the Engineering function and lead the delivery of advanced digital engineering and technical computing applications in partnership with our Digital Engineering Services team. Together, you will establish the vision and tactics and oversee implementation of digital solutions that advance Raytheon’s engineering capabilities for our systems, software, mechanical, and electrical engineers. This role is helping Raytheon transform the way we build our products that provide overmatch capabilities to United Sates warfighters who defend our country and democracy around the world.

What You Will Do:

  • Support the creation of the digital engineering services vision and associated digital engineering roadmap, aligned to business, corporate and DT strategies.

  • Design hosting architectures for cloud, private datacenters, and classified environments, to support Raytheon programs and customers, through consultation with engineering teams to recommend solutions to meet their needs as part of new program bids.

  • Define and execute strategies for the deployment of advanced engineering applications and systems to enable optimized engineering by program teams across Raytheon.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and DT, to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Partner with infrastructure and program architects to design repeatable and automated full-stack engineering environments ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Interact with program teams, internal service teams, and outsourced providers to guide deployment and system migrations.

  • Implement edge computing solutions to enable real-time decision-making, modeling, and simulations for systems, software, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams around the world.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams, to ensure the intended architecture is realized and best practices and standards were followed.

  • Develop architecture artifacts associated with all phases of the TOGAF Architecture Development Method using Sparx Enterprise Architect.

  • Develop reusable patterns, building blocks, and reference implementations to standardize solutions and accelerate delivery.

  • Conduct technology assessments, proof-of-concepts, and pilot projects to validate feasibility and demonstrate value proposition to stakeholders.

  • Mentor others to elevate their technical abilities and prepare them to step into the role of a solution architect.

  • Successful candidates must be able to travel occasionally to major US Raytheon engineering sites located in Andover, MA; McKinney, TX; and Tucson AZ for planning sessions and system deployment support. Travel will average out to be 1-2 times per quarter.

  • Work across the Raytheon Digital Operations team and Strategic business units and programs to forge relationships with Leaders to ensure alignment is achieved on Technology Roadmaps that will continue to upgrade the efficiency of our engineering teams with digital applications and tools.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires bachelor’s degree and minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience or a master’s degree and minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or in lieu of a bachelor’s degree minimum 14 years of prior relevant experience or associate degree and minimum 12 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Experience architecting, designing, integrating, and deploying enterprise-grade engineering applications and technical computing systems.

  • Experience deploying and hosting applications with AWS or Microsoft Azure cloud providers.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Strong critical thinking skills, ability to exercise independent judgment and manage complexity and ambiguity.

  • Experience deploying and architecting digital engineering platforms and DevSecOps toolchains for global engineering teams.

  • Experience leading or working with virtual and geographically diverse teams with persuasive written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience working with agile frameworks, methodologies, and tools, such as Scrum, SAFe, etc.

  • Experience with troubleshooting full-stack applications, including load balancers, proxies, application servers, Docker/Kubernetes container orchestration platforms, and databases.

  • Experience deploying and integrating large-scale software solutions in a highly regulated and secure industry environment through all lifecycle phases, using infrastructure as code and deployment automations, such as Terraform and Ansible.

  • Applied software engineering and software development skills, with Python, Java, or JavaScript.

  • Certification in TOGAF, DoDAF or other architecture frameworks or applied experience developing architecture documentation, models, and views using ArchiMate, UML, BPMN, SysML, etc.

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
