About the Role

Boston University Student Financial Services seeks an Associate Director of Outreach. This position works with the Associate Director of Operations and the Director of Student Financial Services in administering a holistic financial aid program, which supports the recruitment and retention efforts of the Medical Campus and insures Boston University's compliance with federal and state regulations as well as institutional policies and procedures. This position requires the knowledge of financial aid programs and the ability to exercise independent judgment in interpreting federal and state regulations and the use of professional judgment. The Associate Director is responsible to manage staff, financial literacy, and customer service, along with determining student eligibility, awarding and sending award notifications to students. This a supervisory position, managing a team of two assistant directors and a financial aid advisor. The Associate Director works closely with faculty and staff from all four Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) schools. They also work closely with colleagues in BU Financial Aid to ensure federal and state compliance.

The Associate Director of Outreach primary duties include:

  • Administering institutional, federal and private student financial aid.

  • Staying up-to-date with federal, institutional and private lender policies, participating in policy implementations and maintenance;

  • Managing the award notification process for all schools;

  • Monitoring, managing, and training a team of two assistant directors and one financial aid advisor;

  • Promoting and maintaining exemplary customer service by organizing and maintaining the primary schedule and coverage, as well as producing and revising financial aid publications;

  • Coordination of the Financial Literacy program and debt management counseling;

  • Oversight of all aspects of Housing Resources;

  • Managing SFS staff presence during interviews, orientations, and open houses;

  • Helping to create and maintain presentation content and ensuring presentation coverage for internal and external meetings/events, and;

  • Oversight of office student employees; helping the Assistant Director manage their schedules and workflow.

BU Student Financial Services plays a critical role in ENSAs mission by providing important services through timely and accurate review of BUMC financial aid applications, awarding of financial aid funds, processing of loans, and by providing counseling to students and parents on the financial aid process, programs and related issues. About the Candidate

A bachelors degree is a requirement for this position. A valid drivers license and CORI background check are also required. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:

  • Has experience managing personnel including supervising, training, and evaluating staff;

  • Displays superior interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize and work independently and exercise professional judgment;

  • Is detail oriented in all aspects of position from reviewing student files and awarding financial aid, to reviewing reports;

  • Shows effective and efficient office administration and personnel management skills.

  • Has the ability to maintain knowledge of all applicable laws and regulations and their implications for various types of financial aid;

  • Has knowledge of Federal Student Aid Administration, including application procedures, Cost of Attendance provisions, fund sources, restrictions and limitations in award amounts and exercise of professional judgment, and;

  • Demonstrates proficiency in use of Federal and state electronic filing and data interface (COD, NSLDS, etc.), and knowledge of financial aid reporting requirements. Experience with PeopleSoft is a plus, but not a requirement.
