Brunswick County Government Veterans Services Officer in Bolivia, North Carolina
The
Veterans Services Officerperforms administrative and clerical work in advising armed forces veterans and dependents of their rights and benefits under federal, state and local laws. This position is also responsible for general clerical work associated with the Veterans Services Office and performs administrative duties to document casework and activities. The Veterans Services Officer must exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining clients' eligibility for veterans benefits and working with Department of Veterans Affairs program officials to obtain services for clients as well as exercise tact, courtesy and discretion in frequent contact with veterans and/or their dependents.
Education and Experience
Requires an Associates degree in secretarial sciences or related field, including or supplemented by course work in typing and business practices, and one to two years of experience in secretarial or clerical work, preferably involving public contact
; or
any combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must complete the Veterans Services Officer Certification Training Course through the North Carolina Division of Veterans Affairs accreditation program within one year of hiring.
Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety office equipment. Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
