Idaho Power — located in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a System Administrator or Senior to join our Information Technology team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. This System Administrator performs the following critical support functions such as working closely with business partners and internal IT groups with an emphasis in providing and supporting virtual compute & storage needs for critical systems within Idaho Power. This position is expected to split time between ongoing run support tasks (approximately 70%) and time spent on new projects and automation (30%). This role of Virtualization & Storage System Administrator performs the following critical support functions:
Setting up, configuring & supporting virtual computer environments on host-based hypervisors such as VMWare ESXi, VCenter, RedHat OpenShift Virtualization. In addition, knowledge of cloud-based compute.
Managing virtual replication and DR technologies such as SRM and local replication of virtual datastores.
Setting up, configuring & Supporting data storage systems including SAN (Storage Area Networks), fibre connections as well as knowledge of cloud-based storage systems.
Assists with installing, upgrading, testing, monitoring, baselines, documenting, and maintaining the Windows Server Operating Systems as well as managing Windows Server licensing and ensuring compliance.
Provides support with configuring, supporting, and maintaining our DCHP environment.
Performs Systems Administration functions for assigned applications to ensure supported systems are reliable, efficiently maintained, monitored and available to support Idaho Power.
Consults with business units and other IT Teams with planning, designing, configuring, and supporting enterprise level solutions.
Provides regular and periodic patching & maintenance of supported applications and hardware within the team.
Participates in root cause analysis and troubleshooting techniques in support of Problem Management.
What does a System Administrator do for us?
System Administrators analyze, install, configure, upgrade, test, document, monitor and maintain software and hardware in support of business processing requirements. Supported systems may include operating systems, business applications, server hardware, security tools, monitoring tools, web servers, application servers, Integration servers, and other departmental or enterprise applications or systems. Provides technical support for problems not resolved by the Integrated Operations Center or IT Service Desk.
A Senior System Administrator will also:
Participate in the development and execution of technology strategies to support organizational activities and direction. Provide advanced level support for systems, including troubleshooting, performance, monitoring, cost-benefit, security, and licensing analysis. Stay aware of industry trends, business requirements, and technical design methodologies to aid in the development of creative/innovative IT/OT solutions.
A STRONG CANDIDATE WILL HAVE
Knowledge of:
- Installation, configuration, upgrade, test, document, monitor and maintain software and hardware of relevant technology platform(s) above
Preferred:
PowerShell
Backup and monitoring systems
Disaster Recovery processes and criteria
Skills in:
Problem solving
Strong interpersonal skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
System Administrator:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
OR
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field
Experience:
- 2 or more years relevant technology administration experience
Preferred:
- 4 or more years relevant technology administration experience
Senior System Administrator:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS (Computer Information Systems) or equivalent field
OR
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS (Computer Information Systems), Cyber Security or a related field
Experience:
- 5 or more years of professional technology administration experience
Preferred:
- 8 or more years of experience in a corporate multi-platform technology environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
