Example of Duties:

Supervision:

  • Hires, trains, and evaluates regional plans examining staff; develops individual performance plans and employee cross training plans; monitors effectiveness of regional plans examining program and ensures staff is delivering excellent customer service.

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and guidance to staff; giving direction and applying oversight.

  • Analyze, review, assign and monitor the daily plan review workload of assigned staff and provide guidance, oversight, and accountability for staff at the plan examiner levels to ensure workloads are conducted and services rendered are fulfilled in a timely manner.

  • Works with program managers to develop solutions to technical program issues; meets with staff on a regular basis to resolve program problems and share information.

  • Coordinates with manager to ensure goals and objectives are being met; serves as liaison between staff and management and compliance staff.

Training:

  • Mentor, train, and coach staff. Train new staff to conduct plan reviews and follow expectations, policies, and procedures. Train, oversee and monitor plan review volume, number of corrections, and plan review turnaround time frames so as to coach staff towards improvement and for reporting.

  • Establish thorough expectations and protocols for staff that address daily assignment functions, measurable objectives, goals, personnel development, and training.

  • Works closely with compliance staff and participates in meetings with local building officials and members of the public on safety and compliance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Trade Experience/Licensure/Certification: Must have a minimum of four years’ experience in one of the following trades: electrical; plumbing; heating, venting, air conditioning (HVAC); or building construction.

  • Possess a current journeyman license to practice in their trade as applicable.

  • Possess a current certification as an inspector in their applicable trade and have at least one year experience being responsible for inspecting work to applicable codes in their trade.

  • Some knowledge of supervisory practices.

  • Experience: using a computer for business purposes; preparing written documents such as reports, letters, or other business documents; interpreting and applying state code and laws.

  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Acknowledgement: Idaho Code prohibits Inspectors from being engaged directly or indirectly, or financially interested, in any business, trade, practice, or work, or the sale of related supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communications; problem solving; and conflict resolution skills.

  • Knowledge of: International Building, Residential, Energy and Fire Codes; code development and ordinance development processes; structural engineering principles; design practices and construction methods of materials for residential and non-residential structures; historical building code application and correlation to current construction practices; and computer usage including related software.

  • Experience interpreting building diagrams and plans to determine compliance with current building codes.

  • Experience: Interpreting and applying provisions of the state plumbing code and related rules and regulations

  • Compliance Supervisor Experience: interpreting, applying, and explaining complex information such as regulations, policies, or services to members of the public; providing good customer service to independently solve problems with individuals or resolve conflicts in a work setting.

  • Ability to: manage projects and lead teams from various departments; read and interpret complex commercial and residential building plans and specifications; evaluate structural engineering reports and calculations; comprehend grading plans and geotechnical reports; interpret building codes, energy codes, mechanical codes, and fire codes; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and perform all essential functions as assigned by the building official and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
