We seek candidates with expertise in interpersonal/relational communication. Applicants who focus on health/well-being are of particular interest. We are looking for a colleague who can help shape the way our department moves forward; creating innovative classes and joining our endeavors for engaging in research and with students in diverse ways.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach existing undergraduate courses in our department, including core courses (e.g., communication perspectives, research methods, senior capstone), interpersonal communication, advanced relational communication, and special topic courses within their area of expertise (e.g., health communication, technology and relational communication, family communication). Candidates trained to teach and conduct research in qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods research are preferred.

This position supports the University\'s mission of providing student-centered, quality education and is committed to the success of our students and the university. Candidates should have a strong interest in collaborative research, inclusive mentoring of students, and teaching at the undergraduate level.

Scholarly, Creative, or Research Activities:

Normal position responsibilities include a 3/3 teaching load while maintaining an active and productive research agenda. The first year of teaching will be a 2/3 maximum load. We also offer mentoring and other resources to enable prosperous research and teaching activities.

We are looking for colleagues with complementary research interests who will contribute to a vibrant research program by partnering and collaborating with faculty and students in our department and across campus and expanding partnerships with non-academic organizations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Communication (relational/interpersonal focus) prior to start
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and independence
  • Evidence of teaching and/or mentoring experience relevant to the position

Salary and Benefits:

Salary will range between \$57,000 and \$62,000 for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty appointment. Additional opportunities for summer courses/activities are available. One summer course is compensated 10% of the instructor\'s salary.

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contracts and work days is available here.
