Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a School Certifying Coordinator. - Boca Raton, FL.
The School Certifying Official (SCO), certified by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), will serve as part of a student-facing Military and Student Success Team that serves and supports military-connected students attending FAU through on-campus and remote instruction.
Summary of responsibilities:
Maintain documentation and internal tracking of all Veteran’s Certification Requests (VCR).
Inform the VA and the State Approving Agency (SAA) of the enrollment status of military-connected students as required.
Obtain clearance and be authorized by the VA annually to become and remain an active SCO.
Assist eligible military-connected students in applying for VA educational benefits, maintain records of military-connected students, and make records requested by VA/SAA available for audit. Remain up to date on current VA rules, programs, and benefits, and travel to and attend required VA SCO and educational program training courses and conferences.
Audit military-connected student financial files to alleviate possible debt issues between the VA and FAU. Ensure the student status information matches the University's student information system and the Enrollment Manager database and is certified and transmitted to the VA Regional Office.
Identify and resolve complications unique to the military-connected student population and serve as the primary contact for the public, University personnel, and officials at all levels with the VA regarding military-connected student issues.
Informs the Director and/or assigned supervisor of accommodations needed for military-connected students such as, but not limited to, lifting of holds, tuition deferments, exceptional circumstances withdrawals, emergent matters, special assistance, student accessibility, etc., as needed.
Provide leadership to FAU’s military-connected student population by generating innovative ways to provide support services that aid in the recruitment, retention, support, graduation, and career services opportunities for military-connected students.
Responsible for billing eligible military-connected student educational benefits, submission of out-of-state waiver reports, and communicating important deadlines to military-connected students.
Enter all military-connected student enrollment changes in Enrollment Manager to meet the 30-day reporting rule; this includes updating changes such as switching majors, class add/drop changes, and class withdrawals. Identify courses no grade was given and make appropriate adjustments based on VA and FAU policies and guidance from leadership.
Counsel military-connected students on how their academic progress and standing affect their GI Bill® certification.
Coordinate all logistical aspects of annual audits for the student files assigned. Ensure all student files contain required documents for compliance per the SCO handbook.
Monitor military-connected student accounts for changes in academic action (suspension, dismissal, etc.) and report information on an ongoing basis through the Enrollment Manager system.
Assure certifying educational benefits documents are authenticated.
Support and Leadership:
Interact and engage with students and guests who seek support within the MVSCC, and/or contact the MVSSC via phone and electronic mail.
Assist with management, daily operations, and general occupant safety of the Military and Veterans Student Success Center.
Work with the Director to ensure VA and Department of Defense educational program compliance.
Assist with the development of a year-end report, division annual report, and Key Performance Indicators for the Military and Veterans Student Success Center.
Assist in the development and planning of special programs, initiatives, newsletters, brochures, web pages, etc., that will be used to promote and enhance military-connected students' experiences and sense of membership at FAU and with one another.
Assist in maintaining and continuously improving the university’s rankings in Best for Vets, Military Friendly, and other designations available for military and veterans serving institutions.
Collaborates with other divisional departments to promote the development of programs and events aimed at serving military and veteran students.
Assist with orientation presentations, How2FAU, Open Houses, etc., and other institutional, divisional, and department-wide events as required.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.
