Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Psychiatrist. - Boca Raton, FL
The psychiatrist would be responsible for providing psychopharmacological services to students across three campuses. In addition, this position requires the provider to have strong administrative skills. The psychiatrist will be responsible for policy development and improving access and delivery of psychiatric services to all FAU students. This position will work closely with administrators, managers, departments and other medical health center staff to improve care. This position is an in-person role on the Boca Raton Campus with travel to Jupiter and Davie campus, as needed.
Summary of responsibilities:
Clinical:
Provides psychopharmacological services to college students.
Must have extensive knowledge and experience in psychopharmacology and behavioral therapies, with particular expertise in treating mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, PTSD and substance abuse.
Experience working with diverse populations within a relational cultural framework, and familiarity with the psychological and developmental experiences of college students.
Ability to work collaboratively with primary care providers in Student Health and therapists within Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
Records findings in a systematic, comprehensive and clearly stated form.
Obtains a detailed intake assessment.
Requests and/or orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests to support diagnostic evaluations. Interpret laboratory and diagnostic test results.
Responsible to maintain confidentiality of all student medical/health information, in accordance with all departmental, university, state and federal regulations and guidelines.
Follows FAU and Student Health Services guidelines, policies, and protocols.
Institutes emergency procedures, which might be required in life-threatening situations to stabilize a patient's condition or prevent further trauma until emergency medical transport arrives.
Consults with other members of the medical staff about patients with special medical problems in accordance with established guidelines.
Provides timely access to patients in need of care.
Refers patients to other members of the medical staff and outside specialists as necessary.
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be patient-centered
Maintains current and appropriate medical credentials.
Diagnoses and treats acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses.
Requests laboratory determinations and diagnostic tests as needed. Interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic tests results.
Responsible to maintain confidentiality of all student medical/health information, in accordance with all departmental, university, state and federal regulations and guidelines.
Provides oversight and coordination as needed to services provided to FAU student by FAU’s contracted mental/behavioral health vendor.
Participates in multidisciplinary meetings (E.g.: patients with eating concerns)
Performs other duties as assigned.
Administrative:
Initiates and creates policies, which support clinical practice.
Participates in peer review process and quality improvement program.
Potential supervisory responsibility as psychiatry program expands.
Participates in medical staff committees.
Serves as a role model to the medical staff regarding psychiatric medical practice.
Sets standards of clinical care and oversees an ongoing system to evaluate and monitor clinical care.
Recommends and ensures compliance with policies, regulatory requirements and standards that cover clinical and patient care responsibilities.
Works closely with CAPS and other campus partners to improve psychiatric services provided to students.
Actively participates in the three-year AAAHC re-accreditation review with support from the appropriate committee members.
Ensures clinical compliance with accreditation and other prevailing standards.
Gathers data for staffing, program, and services evaluation.
Responds to student patient, parent, faculty, or staff concerns as needed or requested.
Serves on university and departmental committees as needed or requested.
Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency in psychiatry.
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Florida or eligibility for such licensure.
Unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
Eligible for board-certification or Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Five (5) years clinical experience in out-patient mental health, university counseling or similar setting.
Strong understanding of developmental and mental health challenges affecting university students."
Salary:
$135 - $150 per hour.
