Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a DOR Innovation & Business Development Assistant Director, Chief of Staff - Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates the Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Business Development overseeing and executing strategic initiatives to foster innovation, economic development, and university-community-industry partnerships. Provides direct support to the DOR Innovation and Economic Prosperity (IEP Designation) Team and all on-site/on-campus activities. Responsible for assisting management, administrative direction, and control of activities of the Innovation and Economic Prosperity Program.

  • Creates and implements systems and processes to fulfill the requirements of the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities IEP designation program.

  • Advises and assists in planning, directing, and reporting the activities of the programs administered by the Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Business Development units.

  • Coordinates the work of researchers and vendors who support the IEP Program.

  • Assists in developing and implementing procedures as required by the APLU IEP Program designation guidelines.

  • Provides administrative leadership, expertise, executive level support, and manages several operational activities within the Office of the Innovation & Business (IBD), primarily of the IEP Program.

  • Manages partnership engagement strategies that provides data collection and maximizes event participation, including drafting agendas, participate and obtain data (such as minutes) in committees and meetings.

  • Work collaboratively with the Innovation and Business Development team members in their role of outreach and communications with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Responds to requests from Executive Leadership areas. Resolves issues and ensures that established deadlines are met.

  • Coordinates activities with external vendors and liaisons to strengthen community connections and drive economic impact data towards the IEP designation and other DOR requirements.

  • Creates and maintains partnership records and reports with local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to support economic growth as directed.

  • Oversee the planning and execution of innovation-focused events, workshops, and programs.

  • Manages program budgets and resources effectively.

  • Prepares and present reports on program outcomes and impact to university leadership and stakeholders.

  • Supervises and mentor two research or post-doctoral employees, guiding their work and professional development.

  • Chief of staff duties as required.

  • Stays current with trends in innovation, economic development, and higher education to inform program strategies.

  • A key duty includes the financial assistance to the unit in overseeing purchasing, invoicing, and payment processes, create budget amendments, create payroll accounting adjustments, create accounting adjustments

  • Pre-Award and Award coordinator for the Innovation and Business Development Unit in its role in the IEP Program structure not limited to create budgets and budget justification, support grant writing, Novelution and Workday task/file management, coordination with FAU offices/approvers for contracts and finances, continuously monitoring compliance with sponsors/grantors, monitors awards from start to finish, monitors the completion of KPIs.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and five years of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Master's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field and five years of experience in financial services and/or project management.

Salary:

$70,000 - $80,000 per year.
