The Account Payable Technician is responsible for efficiently and effectively administering college wide fiscal control and compliance for the college's accounts payable functions to ensure all accounting transactions and processes are performed accurately and in accordance with state and federal regulations, Minnesota State and State of Minnesota policies and procedures, State Statutes, and best practices.

This position serves as an integral part of the Fiscal Services department by supporting the Procurement unit, while working collaboratively with the Bookstore and Library as these teams are key to the success of this position. This position provides direction to college personnel regarding payment policies and procedures and will provide assistance to vendors, contractors, consultants, auditors, and other government agencies that may need assistance or guidance.

This position will actively advance the college's strategic goals, including to achieve equity in educational outcomes and to support a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and department efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare disbursements and financial information, records and reports, locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural and other fiscal problems.

  • Knowledge of the Minnesota Accounting and Procurement System (MAPS), or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget request.

  • Experience calculating, reviewing, and reconciling data and balance accounts.

Other Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities That We'll Be Interviewing For:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel.

  • Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in accounting, finance, management or related degree

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in accounts payable functions

  • Prior experience with Minnesota State, ISRS system, the PCS or ERP and state SWIFT

  • Knowledge of and understanding about the relationship between cost centers and their general ledger, bank account, SWIFT funds, and appropriation

  • Advance skills in Microsoft Excel

  • Ability and commitment to collaborate and develop effective relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and at different levels in the college
