National Salvage and Service is seeking to hire a Payroll Admin Assistant which is based out of our office in Bloomington, Indiana.

National Salvage & Service is a sustainable company, we recycle nearly all the material we salvage. This practice not only keeps these materials out of landfills, improving the environment; it also saves our customers significant amounts of money, reducing the cost of a job and adding profit.

National is a leading wholesale provider of used railroad ties and new railroad ties and other treated hardwood railroad track products, as well as recycled utility poles.

Job Classification:

  • Non-Exempt

  • Monday - Friday

  • On-Site role

    Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain payroll information by collecting, calculating and entering data

  • Ability to multi-task and complete assignments on deadline

  • Assist in collecting, auditing and inputting new hire documentation

  • Update payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings, deductions and job title and department transfers

  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.

  • Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income, and social security taxes, employer-s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.

  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.

  • Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests

  • Maintain payroll operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes

  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as need

    Qualifications:

  • Curiosity-driven approach to data analysis, focused on exploring how input data impacts and integrates within the entire system

  • Proficient use of electronic spreadsheets, including Excel

  • Ability to pull data from multiple locations

  • Detailed oriented, strive for accuracy

  • Constructively respond to critique and redirection

  • Work at a stead, even pace to promote accuracy and quality of work

  • Strong Multi-tasking skills with frequent interruptions
