Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain network hardware and software, monitor performance, and troubleshoot issues. They also design and implement network infrastructure, install and configure equipment, and create firewalls. Network engineers should have an analytical mind and be able to learn new technologies. They may work with a variety of network types, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and more.

  • Configure managed IP networks including managed network switches, network controllers, routers, firewalls, and servers. Familiarity with Routers, layer 2 and 3 switches, Wireless Access points and firewalls (pfsense, palo alto, checkpoint) is a major plus. Ability to design and configure routing via Firewalls, ACLs, etc

  • Manage and maintain BMS network systems, including installing, operating, and upgrading computers. They also ensure that electronic equipment is functional and up to date so devices can connect to networks.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and evaluate computer network problems. Understanding of the existing network design; This includes how devices are connected, the layout, and the physical and logical structure of the network, as well as protocols such as and not limited to:

  1. TCP/IP Suite: Understanding IP addressing (IPv4 and IPv6), subnets, and routing.

  2. Common Protocols: HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, DHCP, DNS, and RSTP.

  3. -Ports: TCP and UDP

    • Standards: IEEE standards like 802.3 (Ethernet), 802.11 (Wi-Fi), 802.3af (POE)
  • Implement specialized software to write custom applications for building performance or provides automation for system backup for ongoing building management.

  • Use reporting software to follow-up on building performance and make adjustments to enhance the performance and tuning of the system.

  • Use existing software and develop enhancements to provide additional functionality for energy reporting and graphic interfaces for customer dashboards.

  • Provide input and support to others as requested or required to assist in the accurate estimation, design, installation, start up, commissioning, and training for building network systems for the engineering teams, sales team and the project manager.

  • Ensure timely software backups are created for projects and software development.

  • Provide service support on existing systems ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility’s building engineers.

  • Review the preparation of submittal documents and document as-built drawings for the accurate preparation of Operation & Maintenance Manuals.

  • Assist in preparing of As-built drawings and Operation & Maintenance Manuals

  • Work with customer IT departments to implement cybersecurity standards within the BMS/OT networks including but not limited to:

  1. Understanding and ability to configure Firewalls, VPNs, IPsec, work with encryptions (TLS/SSL), and management of certificate (CA) generation and maintenance.

  2. Understanding/ developing and Implementing disaster recovery procedures

  3. Maintaining current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or other networking disciplines

  • 2+ years of networking experience

  • 2 + years of experience in the following, but not limited to:

  • An understanding of computer operating systems including MS Office Suite of products.

  • An understanding of basic networking principles

  • The ability to configure and debug computer and networking problems

  • Experience maintaining network hardware and software

  • Experience configuring managed IP networks

  • Network Engineers need to have the ability to work independently with little to no supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of networking experience

  • Experience building a team of network engineers

  • Networking certifications

  • Experience with Optigo, Cisco, Juniper, Microtik, Tosibox, PFSense or other managed network systems

  • The ability to troubleshoot basic electric and electronic circuitry including reading and interpreting electrical and electronic diagrams.

  • A working understanding of AC power circuitry including breakers, multi-phase power, etc. (120VAC and greater)

  • Clear and concise ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

  • An ability to understand empathetically the issues and perceptions others have and to creatively and successfully work through these issues to achieve a successful outcome and customer and employee satisfaction.

  • All Engineers also need to have a strong awareness of the culture of the industry in which we work.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Be able to lift and carry ladders, drawings, personal computers, material, etc.

  • Be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Be able to spend significant time standing and walking on construction sites.

  • Be able to climb several flights of stairs or ladders throughout a typical day on a construction site.

  • Maintain a satisfactory driving record which, per Climatec’s vehicle policy, allows the individual to drive on company business.

  • Be physically able to kneel, stoop and crawl.
