The Cigna Group Financial Analysis Lead Analyst in Bloomfield, Connecticut

The Healthcare Financial Analyst Lead Analyst will support the Business Financial Officer (BFO) team within a highly complex and regulated Medicare Advantage business. The individual hired to this position will manage the MidAmerica market. The Medicare Advantage business includes a broad portfolio of products and provider risk arrangements. The skill sets needed to manage this wide spectrum of responsibility will be inclusive of Organizational Agility, Influential Leadership, and Drive for Results.

This Micromarket BFO role will oversee financial strategy, lead planning & analysis, enable growth, and be engaged in a variety of functions supporting the Medicare Advantage business. They will partner with the product, pricing, and strategy teams to drive the annual bid process balancing growth and profitability. They will be responsible for communicating financial outcomes and insights, highlighting opportunities to improve our gross margin through strong collaborative relationships. The candidate will be responsible for partnering with their respective Market President and a large group of matrix partners.

This is not a role with step-by-step instructions to follow. This is a role for a driven individual willing to be coached by a strong team, learn the Medicare Advantage business, and ultimately taken accountability as a leader within the team and your market. The experience requirements are minimal, but we expect strong financial acumen and an ability to learn and apply. We support career growth and ultimately hope to this leads to promotion within the team or elsewhere within our Medicare businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop strong partnerships across a cross-functional business team.

  • Serve as a credible and reliable finance lead for your market and matrix partners, helping to influence outcomes that support profitability of our business.

  • Collaborate across teams to drive the highly complex Medicare annual bid process, appropriately balancing enterprise expectations related to growth and profitability.

  • Learn what factors influence revenue, medical expenses, operating expenses, growth, and overall profitability for a Medicare Advantage plan.

  • Analyze and explain variances vs expectations for market earnings and other smaller slices of the business. The depth and direction of the analysis is case-by-case and depends on an ability to apply critical thinking to identify areas needing further investigation.

  • Leverage data from internal and external sources to influence business partners on actions that improve affordability and marketability of Medicare Advantage plans.

  • Participate in the development of the market’s multiyear growth strategy.

  • Present to primary care providers on performance measures and their incentive arrangements.

  • Support value-based and fee-for-service contract modeling. Create what-if scenarios for various outcomes such as provider additions, terminations, and rate changes.

  • Assist in evaluation and planning of geographic and product expansion activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economic, Analytics, Actuarial Science, Accounting, Business, or other related field

  • 3+ years of extensive experience in Healthcare, Financial Analysis, or related area

  • Ability to understand complex products and their relevant levers to improve profitability

  • Superior financial skills, including the acumen to identify and solve difficult problems

  • Ability to present with Senior Leaders on both technical and non-technical aspects of the business

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities
