Position Title: Student Intern - Engineering (Mechanical) (Summer 2025)

Department/Location: Office of Chief Ops Officer/Bismarck, ND

Position Purpose:

This is a temporary position that assists the Mechanical Engineering division at headquarters. The incumbent must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist engineering staff on project assignments.

  • Verify as-built conditions and subsequent drawing updates.

  • Develop P&ID's, basic design elements, equipment sizing, etc.

  • Perform basic engineering calculations

Qualifications :

  • Enrolled in a four-year Engineering Accreditation Commission/Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (EAC/ABET) accredited mechanical or chemical engineering program with at least two semesters completed.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • A minimum of a 2.5 grade point average (GPA) is preferred.

  • Able to demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, and work as part of a team.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and personal computers.

  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • A valid driver’s license.

  • This position will travel approximately 10% of the time by car or cooperative/commercial plane.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires frequent sitting and standing/walking; and occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, use of keyboard/computer, bending/reaching, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position occasionally may work in conditions of dirt/dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat/cold, vibration, noise, poor ventilation, electrical risks, and confined areas. This position requires good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines. This position may need to be respirator qualified. The incumbent is required to be clean-shaven for respirator fit testing while assigned to work on a plant site.

Wage: $26 per hour
