Position Title: Physical Security Technician I, II, Sr.

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Position Purpose:

This position is an entry level position primarily responsible for assisting with the installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of physical security systems and assists in documentation and record keeping related to security systems with supervision oversite. These services support all Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) facilities. This includes existing and future plants and subsidiaries, substations, and administrative facilities. While learning and gaining practical experience with access control systems, surveillance cameras, alarms, and other security equipment and conducting routine checks and inspections of security equipment. This position is identified as a Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) related position, which may allow physical and/or logical access to Bulk Electric System (BES) cyber related assets or systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide basic technical and trouble shooting skills.

  • Assist with documenting and writing procedures of all systems and equipment supported by Security Response Services.

  • Assist with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing physical security systems, including access control, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), alarm systems, electronic locking mechanisms and other physical security duties as needed.

  • Collaborate with other physical security team members and relevant departments to address physical security concerns and incidents.

  • Assist with providing training to employees on the proper use of security systems and equipment.

  • Assist in the installation of new security and camera equipment and systems as needed to ensure they meet security and safety standards.

  • Maintain detailed records of security system maintenance, incidents, and equipment inventory.

  • Assist with conducting routine services and inspections for ascertaining the smooth functionality of security systems and equipment.

Qualifications :

Physical Security Tech I:

  • Two-year degree in electronics or a related field, and one year of related electronics experience; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and three years of related experience working with complex security systems.

Physical Security Tech II:

  • Two-year degree in electronics or a related field, and three years of related electronics experience; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and five years of related experience working with complex security systems.

Physical Security Tech Sr:

  • Two-year degree in electronics or a related field, and five years of related electronics experience; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and seven years of related experience working with complex security systems.

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of complex security systems and equipment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to multitask, troubleshoot, and repair electronic systems and closed-circuit video systems (CCVE) systems.

  • Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word and Outlook.

  • Able to read and understand technical drawings, datasheets, and written work instructions, and experience using electronic test equipment, hand tools, and small power tools.

  • A valid driver’s license.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of a keyboard/computer and other office productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. This position occasionally uses electronic and hand tools to repair security equipment. This position also requires the use of investigative equipment, electronic security equipment, automobile, digital, two-way radio, video camera, computerized access/alarm system, and closed-circuit video equipment (CCVE) systems. Finger dexterity, hand coordination, good color vision and ability to perform close work are required. This position requires the ability to communicate and must be able to clearly exchange accurate information. The incumbent must be able to perform basic arithmetic skills, and measure distances on maps. This position requires the ability to analyze data and reports, conduct research, implement recommendations, and direct others. The incumbent must also be able to develop plans, procedures, and goals, present information to others, and work under pressure. Occasionally works in conditions of dirt, dust, fumes, chemicals, extreme heat and cold, noise, poor ventilation, and electrical risks. The position may be required to work at heights up to 25 feet. This position requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle. The incumbent will be required to travel 50 percent of the time, as well as be on-call as needed.
