Position Title: Manager, Capital Assets & Project Accounting

OPEN UNTIL FILLED

Position Purpose:

This position is responsible for the accounting for all wholly owned and project-managed construction projects, asset additions, and asset retirements. This includes responsibility for the accounting for depreciation and leases and for managing the process of recognizing and accounting for asset retirement obligations. The incumbent is also responsible for the accounting and reporting for all trackable, insurance, and billable work order activity.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage all functions related to property records, capital, retirement, and non-capital work orders, and leases.

  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures involving capital assets and project accounting.

  • Maintain knowledge of accounting standards and other regulatory requirements impacting accounting for capital assets including depreciation rates, intangible asset amortization and capital vs. expense classification.

  • Responsible for the review of contracts to determine if a lease exists and for the classification and proper accounting for finance and operating leases.

  • Manage the unitization of construction costs into major assets or systems for capitalization.

  • Review material inventory purchases for possible classification as a capital spare asset.

  • Manage the process of recognizing and accounting for asset retirement obligations and the associated capital assets including working with Legal personnel to identify asset retirement obligations.

  • Work with engineering consultants to certify bondable additions for future financing.

  • Serve as one of the Financial Services department representatives on the Project Review Committee.

  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals to ensure the team maintains quality work standards and identifies opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.

Qualifications :

  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of GAAP, financial, and accounting theory and procedures.

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a business-related field and

  • 10 years of related professional accounting experience.

  • Proficient in personal computers including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint; and a good working knowledge of relational database concepts.

  • Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Able to work effectively on a cross-functional basis with colleagues of varying seniority.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position and to move about the office building, occasional reaching below and above shoulder level, constant use of a keyboard/computer and other office productivity machinery, bending, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. It also requires finger dexterity and hand coordination. This position requires the ability to communicate and must be able to clearly exchange accurate information. It also requires the ability to develop plans, procedures, and goals; present information to others; and work under stress to complete projects within deadlines.
