System One Software Engineer in Birmingham, Alabama

Position Title: Associate Software Engineer

Position Location: Birmingham, AL

Ability to work remote: Hybrid , 3 days in office

Duration : 6 months plus

Job Summary:

Responsible for writing programs to maintain and control computer systems software for operating systems, networked systems, and database systems. Responsible for creating the software platform, and then fine-tuning the final program after it has been made.

Job Responsibilities:

• Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt it to new hardware or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance.

• Design and develop software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.

• Consult with engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, develop specifications and performance requirements and resolve customer problems.

• Advise customer about, or perform, maintenance of software system.

Skills:

• Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage ones time.

• Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing and delivery.

• Ability to troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issue.

• Knowledge of computer development software, such as SQL, Java, J2EE, etc.

Education/Experience:

• High School Degree and Bachelors degree in computer science/relevant field or equivalent work experience required.

• Entry level to 3 years experience required.

Initiatives/Projects:

We need more help in Performance testing and cross support due to the Service Browser decom project. Legacy application is being decommissioned.

Industry background:

Diverse industry background; financial services is nice to have.

Team Dynamic:

5 others on this team. These Associate roles will be interacting with Sr. Developers and API Principals.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Develops, tests and implements software solutions.

Designs software solutions to address business needs.

Writes code, tests and deploys software.

Prepares technical and procedural documentation required for software.

Maintains and debugs software.

Must Have Technical Skills:

1-3 years as a developer

Java and related languages

1-3 years API Development - Rest and SOAP APIs

Nice to have - Salesforce experience, DevOps tools or similar - BitBucket, Dynatrace, Visual Studio, IntelliJ, Jira, Micron framework. Agile team experience

Soft Skills: Attention to detail, team player, ability to work across teams, collaboration and communication.
