Class A Tool and Die Manager wanted in Birmingham, Alabama to be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of Class “A” tooling improvements and overseeing the troubleshooting of draw and surface issues along with advising and knowledge-sharing with Class “A” Toolmakers & Press Line Leadership; Assess and assist in upgrading the supervisory and operator’s talent and skills bases to achieve growth and meet market needs such as reduced cost, efficient production cycle times, uptimes and reliable delivery; Lead Press Tooling team to ensure business plan goals and objectives are met, measured by EBIT/ROFE targets as agreed with the GM; Ensure that operating plans and methods to achieve maximum plant performance/reliability while maintaining EH&S compliance requirements; Promote/practice “safety first” by immediately addressing any hazards within the manufacturing floor and workstations. Correct issues through training or progressive discipline as appropriate. Ensure team members attend daily shift communications and trainings with team members;Participate in accident/incident investigations and ensure that all accidents and incidents that occur have completed investigations documented and turned in to the health and safety team within 24 hours of the incident Ensure priorities for all tool shop employees are safety, quality then delivery;formulate, plan and implement strategies to meet customer demands. Provide timely coaching, counseling, and feedback to the team through one-on-one sessions, performance evaluations, and regular team meetings to ensure fulfillment of policies, practices, and procedures; Schedule, supervise, coordinate and direct the activities of team members and equipment to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met; Maintains proper schedules and manning through eTime; verifies employee schedules on a daily basis; Ensure compliance with press department, company and customer quality standards and procedures; Be responsible and accountable for meeting KAMTEK and departmental objectives; Responsible to address and solve all customer related problems and concerns, both internal and external; Participate/initiate in continuous improvements and take advantage of cost reduction opportunities; Promote, participate and implement Lean activities as they are introduced such as 5S, Kanban, PDCA’s and Standardized work; Services, maintains, and tests new or changed dies, capable of implementing and maintaining a preventative maintenance program on Class “A” tooling. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on all tooling and follows up on PM and tracking sheets; Capable to perform Class “A” die design reviews, direct tooling changes, Understanding of draw die development including spring back; Experience in Class “A” Die build follow up and die buy-offs at suppliers; Troubleshoots for problems during production on all production lines; Modifies dies and tooling to conform to engineering changes; Responsible for all in-house tooling, coordinating all new tooling equipment; Responsible for interim and long-term problem solving involving tandem press line, dies, and press line automation; Establish and maintain effective communication with other departments as well as conduct all business activities in a professional manner; work with stamping presses which are Hydraulic and Mechanical as well Draw press used in the forming station; design/build large stamping dies, including trim, form, and flange dies; ensure cutting clearance and flange gap accuracy and spotting of panel to forms; work on Large Class A Panels as well as inner support panels; use Smirt and Catia; Schedule, supervise, coordinate and direct the activities of team members and equipment to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met. Requires a Tool and Die Certificate and 60 months of related experience as a Tool and Die Maker, Tool and Die Manager, Tooling Tryout Supervisor or Team Lead Hand. The related experience must include working with similar stamping presses which are Hydraulic and Mechanical as well Draw press used in the forming station; designing and building of large stamping dies, including trim, form, and flange dies; ensuring cutting clearance accuracy, flange gap accuracy and spotting of panel to forms; working on Large Class A Panels as well as inner support panels; using Smirt and Catia; using precision measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks as well as hand grinders and stones; performing dimensional analysis of parts produced and developing and implementing a Scope of Work for corrective action.; using Tig, Mig and Stick welding of tool steels, including the process of pre heating to minimize part defect.. 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; M-F, $137,000.00 per year.
