The Children's Home is looking for a Licensed Social Worker to join us in supporting children in a school setting!Job Summary: The Social Worker identifies and addresses the presenting needs and challenges of the children and families served in our education program and is responsible for providing individual, group and family counseling. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the social worker provides clinical consultation to team members and assists these staff in working effectively with children and families on a day-to-day basis and in crisis situations. The social worker acts as the facilitator for planning meetings from the point of admission through discharge and maintains open communication with all service providers involved.Job Responsibilities:• Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with the children and their families served and ensure that these relationships are responsive to their needs.• Promote the growth of the parent-child relationship in accordance with the Agency’s philosophy of family centered practice in an effort to foster a positive school experience.Identify and access the strengths and challenges of children and families and provide individual, group and family counseling to address needs and support enhanced academic and behavioral performance in school.• Establish measurable counseling goals in Individualized Education Program and monitor progress as scheduled utilizing the web based Individualized Education Program.• Provide individual, family, group counseling and crisis intervention while ensuring that Agency standards of practice are fully met. • Continually evaluate and assess the strengths and needs of students and families to provide appropriate intervention planning.• Schedule and conduct team meetings at least twice per school year and whenever the need arises.• Initiate, develop and implement valid, innovative best practices consistent with progressive trends, directions and research.• Develop and regularly review Individual Crisis Support Plans for Day School students.Promote and guide the development of adaptive coping skills, socialization skills, parenting skills, independent living skills and self-esteem through active involvement in treatment/counseling.• Attend and fully participate in any meetings for students in your case load.Qualifications:Master’s degree in social work from an accredited college or university and LMSW and New York State School Social Worker certification are required within one year of employment.Two (2) years’ experience working with children with emotional, social, and behavioral challenges required.Relevant Knowledge & Essential Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with clients, families, staff and community contacts with a diversity of backgrounds and life situations. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the ongoing needs of children and families. Must possess an understanding of and sensitivity to serving culturally diverse and special needs population. Experience in the principles and practices of social work and the interdisciplinary team approach are preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving, and organizational skills required. Some working knowledge of computers required.
