Broome-Tioga BOCES Principal - Virtual Learning Academy in Binghamton, New York
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Working with the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Support Services & Leadership, the Principal of the Virtual Learning Academy will lead the academic and operational vision of a grades 4-12 fully online learning academy. This individual will foster a welcoming virtual community that supports diversity, inclusion, and excellence, building strong relationships with families, students, staff, and partner school districts. The Principal will oversee curriculum implementation, staff development, and student success while ensuring compliance with state and district standards. Major responsibilities include:
Manage the daily operations of the Virtual Learning Academy
Cultivate strong, trusting relationships with students, families, and staff, fostering a sense of community in a virtual setting
Build and support an affirming environment where staff and students feel welcomed and supported
Set a clear vision for the Virtual Learning Academy to ensure academic excellence and a positive, inclusive virtual culture
Supervise part-time and full-time faculty and staff associated with the Virtual Learning Academy
Guide professional development for staff to support innovative, effective virtual teaching practices
Work collaboratively with school districts and families to support virtual learners
Demonstrate instructional leadership, including knowledge of virtual learning best practices and instructional tools
Oversee curriculum development and implementation to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those in special education and advanced programs
Understand state education laws, policies, and guidelines
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• NYS Certification in School District Administration (SBL, SDA, SAS) • Experience in virtual/ online learning and supporting instructional technology (preferred)
