Budget Title: Staff Associate (SL-4)

Salary: $70,000 - $75,000

The Director of Instructional Design Services will report to the Executive Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching. The Director of Instructional Design Services will develop partnerships with instructors and departments across campus to advance creative, accessible, and interactive course design that transforms curricula into engaging and equity-minded educational journeys for diverse learners. The Director will initiate programmatic growth and scholarship in areas of importance of Binghamton University's strategic priorities and will collaborate with University leadership and appropriate partners to implement strategic initiatives. This position is an active leadership role focused on providing instructional design support and emerging educational technology consulting for initiatives across various educational modalities (on-campus, online, and hybrid; credit and non-credit). The key responsibilities and qualifications are as follows:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct the implementation of Instructional Design for all teaching approaches including credit-bearing courses and non-credit micro credentials.

  • Manage and supervise the instructional design team and their workflow to track and report on activities.

  • Promote consistency in course quality through sharing evidence-based practices.

  • Identify and use data to suggest new initiatives and course quality improvements.

  • Liaise with other campus units (e.g., UCTD, Libraries) to support faculty development and student success.

  • Collaborate with Information Technology Systems (ITS) and Libraries for instructional systems support.

  • Consult with faculty to implement appropriate technology and teaching strategies.

  • Stay updated with generative AI and emerging educational technologies and making recommendations to implement them where appropriate.

  • Serve on academic and university committees and represent the CLT at events as assigned.

  • Assist in CLT budget monitoring for the instructional design team.

  • Supervise and develop department staff, managing their performance and growth.

    Job Requirements:

  • A minimum of a master's degree in instructional design or related field

  • Must demonstrate strong knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of designing, developing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs and/or courses in a variety of delivery modes

  • Five years of relevant experience in learning management systems, instructional design, higher education, or related field

  • A strong understanding of the Brightspace Learning Management System and emerging instructional technologies

  • One or more years of supervisory experience

  • Proficiency with emerging educational technologies, including generative AI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data analysis and data-driven decision making
