Summary:

Tetra Tech's AASHTO fully accredited laboratories and field testing and inspection program has a wide range of equipment, facilities, and staff to support engineering design and construction quality control. These laboratories conduct testing for soil, rock, and construction materials that range from common index tests or sophisticated triaxial shear, permeability, and consolidation tests. Technicians are certified by ACI, MDT, WAQTC, AWS and other appropriate agencies. Field testing is performed using ASTM, AASHTO and other applicable specifications and guidelines. Qualified field and laboratory staff have performed construction inspection and testing services as part of Tetra Tech's AASHTO-accredited testing program since 2008.

The Construction Materials Testing Supervisor will oversee field and laboratory testing, observations, and inspection of construction materials over a variety of construction types including but not limited to civil and structural in the Bozeman and Billings areas. Materials commonly tested and inspected for quality include soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, asphalt, bolting/welding, wood, spray applied fireproofing and others.

Your Role:
The Construction Materials Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for the technical aspects of all testing and inspections, client relations, reporting, staff scheduling and invoicing.
Responsibilities will include mentoring, training and overseeing the work of CME technicians.
Position is responsible to secure work for the local testing and inspection group including identifying opportunities, building relationships, writing proposals and closing contracts.
Ensures company health and safety program requirements are adhere to by reporting staff. Work well with other departments or offices.
Maintains Tetra Tech internal and accredited quality standards including training, equipment calibrations, equipment maintenance, and reporting to regional service manager.
Use reporting software to create clear, accurate, and well written reports for client.


Qualifications:
4-year BS Degree in Construction Management/Materials (CET), Engineering, or Geoscience.
Minimum 3 years experience performing laboratory and field testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, including nuclear densometer testing and developing asphalt and concrete mix designs.
Minimum 3 years experience performing rebar inspection and other special inspections.
ICC Special Inspector, Project Management Professional, Certified Welding Inspector certifications preferred but not required.
Thorough knowledge of ASTM and AASHTO materials testing procedures.
Previous experience managing a CME laboratory preferred.
Ability to obtain and maintain AMRL and CCRL laboratory accreditations.
Experience with project management including cost estimating and proposal writing.
Good understanding of consulting engineering accounting practices.
Excellent staff management, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (approximately 25% or more of travel required).
