CITY OF BILLINGS COMMUNITY OUTREACH INTERN in BILLINGS, Montana

Seasonal Community Outreach Intern - Position runs from May 1, 2025 until September 1, 2025. Must meet minimum age requirements. Applicants must possess excellent communication skills and strong leadership skills. This position is responsible for assisting the Community Outreach and Engagement Coordinator in the management and coordination of the Amend Park Community Garden; coordination of volunteer projects, events and/or other specialized interest areas. Has frequent interaction with staff, co-workers, community members, community gardeners and customers to provide general procedures and oversight. Community Gardens Duties: - Oversee general garden appearance and to ensure safety at sites. - Ensure regular maintenance at the community garden site including landscaping, irrigation, and weeding common areas. - Assist Leadership Team in identifying and responding to plot abandonments and neglect. - Train garden leadership Committee Members and community gardeners on maintenance activities. - Support and attend garden workdays and community building events as needed. - Maintain organized garden records and provide timely email communications with gardeners, staff, volunteers, and general public. Volunteer Projects and Events Duties: - Provides safety trainings to volunteer groups and individuals. - Supervises volunteers on assigned projects according to established volunteer policies and protocols. - Assists staff with setting up events and projects; moving related equipment. - Assist with updating program database and reports. Community Awareness and Marketing Duties: - Assists staff with implementation of media plans and community awareness campaigns, including print/digital media. - Photograph programs and events to promote Parks and Recreation programs. Recreation Programming Duties: - Assist in the coordination, and implementation of recreation programs and special events. - Work alongside program staff during on-field programs and events. Qualifications and Skills: - Must be excellent role model, positive, creative, safety-conscious, and possess a willingness to learn. - Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word computer programs. - Basic knowledge of various social media platforms. - Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include occasional evenings and weekends based upon program demands. - Must be able to work in independently with minimal supervision. - This position may be used as an internship for college credit. - Must have a valid driver's license. - A working knowledge of gardening or other horticultural/sustainable farming practices highly desirable.
