The Senior Pharmacy Technician Homestar, under the direction of a pharmacist, delivers medications, performs unit dose activities, including filling patient medication orders and outpatient prescriptions, performs routine medication area inspections, maintains records for controlled substances, and utilizes the pharmacy computer system. Performs administratively assigned duties.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively follows workflow procedures with an in-depth understanding of each workstation (i.e., Pick- Up, Drop-Off, Production) for day-to-day coordination and processing of patient medication orders; manages own responsibilities while shifting to help the team where needed. May require filling in at other locations as needed.
Demonstrates compassion and care by proactively identifying and resolving potential problems to ensure customers have their medications when needed; collaborates with immediate and extended pharmacy teams, medical staff, insurance companies, and customers alike to resolve issues, ensure accuracy, and deliver timely resolution of any medication or insurance related concerns.
Assists Pharmacy Manager with performing day-to-day activities and administration which may include daily and weekly reports.
Proactively takes on additional tasks and responsibilities, demonstrating a strong work ethic. Identifies opportunities and shares insight on how to improve patient care and customer service.
Works well with others. Promotes a sense of teamwork. Maintains a positive attitude concerning duties, workload and pharmacy operations.
Provides portions of orientation and training for new personnel.
Completes special projects or work requests on time.
Demonstrates strong understanding of business and sound business practices.
Communicates to the Manager any customer service, personnel and/or other issues that arise in the absence of the Manager.
Responsible for maintaining inventory throughout the pharmacy. Includes supply ordering, invoice processing, managing out dates, returns. Coordinates inventory preparation and processing. Orders appropriate quantities, straightens and organizes, and remove outdated stock.
Takes inventory, places orders, checks in drugs and supplies, stocks shelves and removes out-of-date items from the inventory.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Occasionally lift and/or carry 100 lbs. Frequently lift and/or carry 50 lbs. Stand and/or walk at least 6 hours in an 8-hour work day. Stooping (bending at the waist) and crouching (stooping and bending at the knees) – required frequently. Handling (grasping) – required frequently. Fingering (fine manipulation) – required only occasionally.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Current PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) national certification. Minimum 5 years’ experience in retail pharmacy.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires successful completion of on-the-job training in each area of the department within the first six months of employment. One year experience in a long-term care pharmacy preferred.
