Background

North Penn Legal Services (NPLS) is the regional civil legal services provider in Northeast Pennsylvania. We are a Pennsylvania non-profit organization with a mission to provide professional legal representation, advocacy, and community legal education to low-income individuals and families.

We seek staff who are committed to civil legal justice issues and helping clients resolve cases related to housing, public benefits, employment issues, family law, and other areas of public interest law. NPLS maintains staff in nine offices across twenty counties, and outreach to all counties.

Salary is commensurate with relevant experience based on a salary scale. We offer a benefits package that includes employer paid health and dental insurance, a 401(k) plan and generous paid leave and time off for holidays. Employees may qualify for and choose to elect cash in lieu of some of these benefits. Additionally, employees may qualify for loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Paralegal Opening -- Bethlehem

  • The preferred candidate will have some prior paralegal or social work experience and be able to demonstrate a commitment to serving the interests of low-income people.

``` - *This position at NPLS will initially focus in the following areas: * - providing services to clients and screening them for possible representation in family, disability, housing or employment cases. - organizing virtual and in-person outreaches and/or clinics in drafting and updating outreach materials - legal research and writing

 

  • With training and experience, the position will be expanded to include:

``` - representation in administrative matters, (such as public benefits, unemployment or social security). - drafting pleadings and briefs for attorneys

``` - The ability to speak Spanish is beneficial but not required.

``` - Salary DOE. Paralegal scale for candidates with 1-5 years' experience is $38,425 - $42,565 with more credit depending upon experience.
