Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician I to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.
As a Veterinary Technician I, you will maintain, monitor, and document the health, post-operative care, and physical environment within the lab animal care facility. Follows all SOPs, quality assurance standards, guidelines, regulations, and policies to ensure the health of the animals and the integrity of the research.
Additional responsibilities include:
Provide technical support, e.g., animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, blood and other tissues sample collection, injections, treatments, dosage calculations, surgical preparation, pre-, peri-, and post-operative observations, and assisting with research procedures.
You will prepare and submit written reports, charts, logs, and inventories pertaining to animal breeding, health, and housing or support areas.
Provide environmental enrichment feed, other stimuli, and/or behavioral assessments.
Perform daily health assessments and clinical observations of colonies, identify, and perform health examinations on sick animals, and administer prescribed treatments.
Perform animal husbandry duties, including feeding, watering, and cleaning cages. Monitoring of room conditions
Assist with the receipt, stocking, and maintenance of supply inventories.
Maintain a broad general knowledge and competence in lab animal science husbandry, technical procedures, and facility management.
Who Are We Looking For?
The following are minimum requirements related to the Veterinary Technician I position:
High school diploma or GED
BS degree in Animal Science, Biology, or similar discipline; or AA in Veterinary Technology preferred
Experience working with animals in biomedical research or companion animal practice
Eligibility to take the LAT certification exam
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed.
The pay range for this position is $23 - $25 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
