Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be part of the Stores fulfillment product family within Walmart Global Tech. You'll develop technologies, products, or services for core platforms which speedup development of capabilities to revolutionize the way Walmart store associates fulfill customer orders . This could include innovating and developing platforms which serve multiple use cases with a goal to support GIF applications. These platforms help support build common capabilities which power use cases such as Picking, dispense, or creating more efficient ways to manage store fulfillment systems. You'll build applications and processes to help have better experience and improve productivity for associates supporting over 5000 store in US and International markets.

About Team:

We are responsible for the development of Walmart's strategic In-Store Fulfillment product for Online Groceries & eCommerce. While placing an order online, customers can choose to either pickup their order in person or have it delivered from the store. We build Mobile applications & the backend technology that enable Walmart employees to "get the order ready" so that the customer can have a flawless Pickup & Delivery experience.

Our product is global and serves Walmart stores in multiple countries and markets - United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, South Africa are a few examples. In addition, we offer our platform as a commercial SaaS product to non-Walmart retailers to use it in their stores also.

Our team builds highly scalable, cloud-native platforms & applications built with resiliency at its core. Our platform has very diverse capabilities - from highly optimized real time routing algorithms for navigating the store, integrations with Robotic systems to build automated Market Fulfillment Centers and to building products for crowd-sourced gig-economy workers to fulfill online orders similar to Instacart! Our tech stack is a combination of React Native, Java micro services, Spring, Kafka, SQL, Cosmos, ElasticSearch, Cassandra, Apache Druid & Superset, Azure, Splunk, Dynatrace,, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines and much more.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in medium-to-large scale, complex projects by translating requirements into technical solutions, creating high level design, and collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams.

  • Develop high quality code, conduct unit tests, enhance the design of Location Services APIs to prevent re-occurrences of defects, maximize re-use, and improve developer productivity.

  • Guide the team to develop efficient continuous integration and continuous development pipelines while maximizing the automation and unit testing coverage.

  • Improve Walmart's eCommerce customer journey by delivering new features and ensuring a bug free experience. Enhance the location services APIs to adopt Walmart's cloud native platform and create highly performant and resilient microservices.

  • Implement various caching mechanisms in the APIs to reduce the overall response time SLAs and serve the increasing scale of eCommerce customer traffic.

  • Develop innovation strategies, processes, and best practices to improve disaster recovery and mitigation techniques and ensure operational excellence within the team.

  • Improve the existing technology platforms by analyzing industry best practices, driving proof-of-concepts, implementing prototypes, and benchmarking against existing solutions.

  • Mentor and train other team members in various technical challenges, including reviewing proposed solutions and performing design and code reviews.

  • Troubleshoot business and production issues by analyzing impact and criticality; engaging the correct support teams; interpreting results; and performing root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.

What you'll bring:

  • 15+ years of software development. Solid skills in java stack

  • Experience leading technical teams from a technical delivery standpoint

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Cassandra / Cosmos), message stream systems (Kafka), Search (Elastic Search), etc

  • Experience working in agile environment (Scrum, daily standups etc)

  • Experience of delivering and supporting a large scale production system

  • Experience with being a core contributor to a software project: understanding domain and business requirements, being responsible for critical parts of the application

  • Experience working with logging and application monitoring stack: Splunk, Grafana, Dynatrace Good communication skills, working in multi-team project

  • Over 10+ years of experience in Technical Solutions Architecture and design leadership.

  • Strong Java, Spring framework, Kafka, SQL and cloud experience such as Azure.

  • Strong experience in RESTful Microservices Container technologies such as Docker on Kubernetes Strong API design, development, and management

  • Clear Communication, including the ability to create functional charts Ability to multitask between several different requirements and features concurrently

  • Experience with cloud native

  • Solid experience with REST APIs Strong experience within the Cloud using Azure Experience with using Linux command line tools Experience using source control systems (git) Experience with working with CI/CD (Jenkins/Travis)

  • Experience with working with cloud deployments (scaling, resiliency, load balancing etc)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (Any), or related field and 6 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment; OR Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering (Any), or related field and 5 years of experience in large scale enterprise software development environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
