The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking to fill one (1) full-time Facilities Specialist position. This position will coordinate with Facility Advisors in the region to provide DNR Buildings and Sustainability Programs services for Region 1. It will be responsible for conducting facility and site condition assessments, preparing building project specifications, and providing oversight for maintenance, renovation, as well as construction and demolition projects. The position provides leadership and direction so that the facility program services are implemented in a safe, cost-effective, customer focused, and sustainable manner.

Principal responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a comprehensive facility assessment of sites and systems in the region. This includes buildings, wells, wastewater systems, HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, and other components maintained by the facilities program.

  • Respond to facility maintenance, repair, and renovation requests at DNR facilities according to established priorities and budgetary constraints. Prepare project plans and specifications for maintenance, repairs, retrofit, energy upgrades and divestment of facilities/infrastructure according to established priorities, budgets, and State of Minnesota policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the remediation and the disposal of buildings and other structures removed from DNR managed lands.

This position has a flexible work arrangement and may be eligible to telework on a full or part-time basis which is subject to change. If approved, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of paraprofessional experience in facilities or construction trades including experience managing building construction or repair projects.

  • A two-year degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Construction Technology, or related field may substitute for one year of experience.

  • Knowledge of building components, related mechanical systems, building codes, construction methods, and architectural and engineering principles.

  • Ability to develop technical specifications and cost estimates for projects.

  • Ability to read and understand repair, remodel, and construction plans and specifications.

  • Working knowledge of maintenance/ repair procedures and inspection requirements sufficient to maintain buildings and other structures.

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact with contractors, vendors, and co-workers in a tactful, cooperative, and professional manner, and create and maintain a positive working environment.

  • Communication skills sufficient to effectively write reports and communicate with customers, staff, and peers.

  • Proficiency with both word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Five years' experience in facilities or construction management.

  • Experience as a manager of construction, chief estimator, or related construction experience.

  • Experience in construction inspection and making recommendations for repairs.

  • Experience with facility management database systems.

Additional Requirements

This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record.
