Performs advanced repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Inspects work performed by shop mechanics and/or contracted vendors. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in the construction of highways/bridges. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment informationHandles and disposes of environmentally hazardous materials in accordance with federal and state laws.Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, taillights and parkinglights.Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management systemMaintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridgesOrders, picks up and delivers parts, materials, tools, and operates equipment and vehicles to include heavy equipmentPerforms acetylene and electric arc welding repairsPerforms emergency spot repairsPerforms preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment as required moves items related tothese activities.Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipmentPrepares vehicles for use by checking for required safety features such as first aid kits, fire extinguishers and mobileradios.Reads and interprets schematics, diagrams and blueprintsTroubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systemsUses computerized diagnostic analyzer systems and performs complex diagnostic work on vehicles/equipment.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
