Amazon Senior Technical Program Manager, Amazon Fulfillment Technologies in Bellevue, Washington

AFT powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. We build and operate software, hardware, and the processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move billions of units of inventory, employ thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when promised. We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. We use innovative technologies to simplify the process by taking advantage of materials handling automation, sensors, computer vision, robotics, and machine learning. We are seeking an innovative, intellectually curious, results-oriented Senior TPM to drive critical programs in our new AFT organization. The TPM will be in charge of handling all aspects of technical projects, including the following: initiate a program following product launch, and serve as support provider in case issues arise; Co-ordinate efforts/dependencies among teams, as well as develop effective schedules and suggest action items that still need to be complete to successfully complete the project; Track technical issues and implement solutions in a prompt manner; Effectively communicate project status and suggest changes to use resources more efficiently; Propose solutions to technical constraints using their technical expertise and experience, as well as provide expertise for escalated quality problems, and anticipate bottlenecks in the development cycle; Identify technical impacts on the organization as they relate to business requirements; Define strategies, regularly participate in executive meetings to present their progress, and share project updates with customers and stakeholders.

Key job responsibilities

As a Senior TPM, you must be able to:

  • Interact with Project Sponsors, other Technical Program Managers, and multiple development teams to define and deliver complex cross-functional projects.

  • Drive large scale projects spanning teams across Amazon from inception to conclusion, formulate the product vision, define user stories, research appropriate technical solutions.

  • Clearly communicate vision, plans and project status to management and key technical and business stakeholders.

  • Work closely with the software development team on delivering high-quality solutions, and provide guidance regarding architecture, design, and priorities.

  • Engage with other teams across Amazon to evangelize the team and your projects, to build relationships and help identify existing technologies that can be leveraged to meet your team’s goals.

  • Identify, assess and mitigate risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs balancing the business needs versus constraints.

  • Create, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders.

About the team

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network. We invent and deliver software, hardware, and data science solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people. We harmonize the physical and virtual world so Amazon customers can get what they want, when they want it.

Inbound

AFT’s Inbound team delivers innovative solutions to automatically receive and process billions of units of inventory from Amazon’s vendors and third-party sellers worldwide, making the merchandise quickly available to Amazon customers.

This role is for the Inbound Automation team which is responsible to build core software components to automate the process of receiving the inventory shipped by various vendors and sellers to the Amazon warehouses. Our software components interfaces with "Vision Tunnels" machines and human associates at the Amazon warehouse and work on determining the contents and other attributes of the inbound inventory, initiating Receive and determining its routing in Amazon's global fulfillment network. This automation reduces the inbound cycle times, improves accuracy of receives and saves millions of dollars for the company.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 3+ years of software development experience

  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
