Actalent Utility Engineer in Belleville, Michigan

Job Description

We are seeking a Utility Engineer to join our team dedicated to Make Ready engineering and design work. This position involves designing power distribution infrastructure while adhering to quality, time, and budget constraints. The role offers the opportunity to work on a significant five-year project with potential for extension and growth into leadership or project management roles based on performance.

Responsibilities

  • Execute work orders for the design of power distribution infrastructure while meeting quality, time, and budget constraints.

  • Perform end-to-end Make-Ready/Joint-use and general distribution design, applying established design guidelines, processes, and procedures.

  • Conduct pole loading analysis, field data review, data entry, and other related tasks to complete design and construction prints.

  • Utilize Open Utilities (MicroStation/AutoCAD based design software) for design work and PoleForeman software for pole analysis.

  • Develop detailed design prints using CAD software such as Bentley, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and SolidWorks.

  • Ensure compliance with National Electric Safety Codes (NESC) to determine corrective actions for spacing and clearance of components on the poles.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in utility design, distribution, low voltage distribution (LVD), make ready, or joint use work.

  • Proficiency with design software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.

  • Knowledge of utility infrastructure, pole installation, clearances, transformers, distribution lines, and down guys.

  • Familiarity with software mapping tools such as ESRI or ArcGIS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor's Degree in a related field, or direct experience in utility or distribution work.

  • Ability to work with various CAD software and perform design tasks efficiently.

  • Entry-level candidates with relevant degrees or utility design experience are encouraged to apply.
